Retribution Paladin's getting Massive NERF (We are already the weakest class/spec)

  • Crusader Strike now deals Holy damage instead of Physical damage, ignoring armor, and is now affected by Holy damage prevention. Crusader Strike is still considered a melee attack, and not a spell.
    *** Seal of Martyrdom can no longer trigger Art of War, and will no longer be triggered by Frost Oil or other weapon procs**.

These are the changes that are coming to Ret on the 28th of Feb, I want to highlight the second CHANGE in perticular. For those of you’s who don’t understand why this is a MASSIVE NERF (literally 100s of DPS). I’m talking about the Art of War Proc being removed not the bug with Frost Oil and weapon effects.

I’ll explain, the only way Ret can do competitive DPS right now is by using a very fast weapon with Seal of Martyrdom SoM because Critical Hits will Reset the Cooldown of Exorcism. You are using the fact SoM and a fast weapon gives you extra/more Critical Hits compared to a Slower Weapon and using Seal of Command. This faster Weapon and SoM combination was good enough that it was allowing Rets the weakest Spec and DPS in the game currently do competitive damage on single target fights.

For some CRAZY UNKNOWN REASON they are removing the ability for SoM Criticals to Proc Art of War. This is crazy because Seal of Commad will still Proc Art of War but they have just decided out of thin air they don’t like Seal of Martyrdom and have decided to nerf it beyond unviable.

The SoM rune has been extremely weak ever since the release of SoD and has been only ever been used for the last 2 weeks in this season, due to the synergy of fast weapons and Art of War Procs and its already getting nerfed to being unusable.

All the Top Rets on WoW Logs are using Automatic Crowd Pummeler because of its really fast weapon speed and haste buff which was allowing SoM to outshine SoC on single target fights and was doing around x1.5 more DPS than SoC single target because of the extra Exorcism Procs. Removing the Crits Procing Art of War just forces every Ret to go back to using SoC and Divine Storm which is already MILES behind Seal of Martyrdom Rune build as it right now.

The Crusader Strike buff is nothing compared to the damage we will lose when Seal of Martyrdom changes go live. It’s literally gonna lose us about 100 DPS. Even if they made Crusader Strike buff do double damage with this change, it would still do less damage than what the Seal of Martyrdom Build does now.

Ret is struggling really badly this phase and your taking our only competitive Rune/Spec setup and just deleting it off the face of the earth. We will be DPS negative if this change goes live even with the buffs to Crusader Strike Ret’s will be weaker after this change. Hats off to Blizzard for taking the weakest Spec in the game and nerfing it even lower. /clap clap

Well yeah that’s blizzard, they make changes that make absolutely no sense at all. The devs don’t play the game, they are pure trash noobs.

Ye, this is beyond stupid. There are other classes pulling crazy dps being tanks. Like warlock tanks and shamans doing over 400dps, then if for example paladins find one build that could do more damage it gets nerfed instantly? I really have zero confidence they can balance this mess they call season of discovery ever…

This keeps coming up. They said something to that effect i do believe, but lets be real, its not balance people are seeking. Its competitivness. Please understand that each class and each tree MUST have some application that gives them some form of competitivness in one area at least.

So take warriors for example, dog shet in every facet of the game, while rogues and priests and mages moan about bugs to runes and spells? No thats bs.

the point was to make things viable. I think they are doing a pretty decent job at it aside from frost mages.

I dont even know how they would even ever perfect it. Because I dont think its possible.
Atleast in how the current playerbase plays the game.
If theres one class doing 2% more dmg than the other people will take the 2% one even if the other is perfectly fine.

The only ever way to make it work might be to shut down wowlogs and disable dmg meter addons. I personally do prefer using a dmg meter addon I like to see how I perform but if no one know how everyone is performing it “might” be able to change things slightly.

You say that as if people dont play other games with balanced pvp. Team Fortress 2 is a 17 year old game with more balanced pvp than sod.

That follows a “were not balanced you just have to play rock paper scissors” and works…amazingly.

Im sorry but saying they are doing a good job of sod pvp is just ignorance. By their own swinging redaction of changes and nerfs they have demonstrated they don’t have a grasp of the numbers or even how the toolkits force bottle necks and provide some classes with an abundance of combat disengages while others simple stay bottle necked.

You CAN balance it but you will just arrive at what we have in retail: everyone got some selfheal, sustain and cc.

This is still supposed to be “classic” with all its shi§§y balancing it always had.
The same old rock scissor paper PvP.
You would need a complete rework of every class and specc to achieve something that somewhat resembles “balancing” this is just the nature of the classic design and has always been that way.

Im not against balancing but they never promised it in the first place so I dont get why people expect it.

A warrior will always have a worse toolkit than rogues just a few runes wont change anything about it maybe it can alleviate some problems but thats about it.

Calling it pathetic is ignorant and we all knew we will be playing “good old classic” with some added abilitys in the first place nothing unacceptable here.

If you cant see that then idk might wanna give retail pvp a try or wait until we get an actual classic +.

Homogonisation = no
Class specific toolkits = yes
Balance = no
Competitive edge for each class within some aspects of the game but not all at once = yes

The last part is the one im on about, mages = amazing in pve, amazing solo pvp, mid to good group pvp, amazing levelers by far the best able to solo stockades at 25 all the way to 32 no issues. Amazing gold farmers, amazing boosters, amazing toolkit with portals and block and heals and blink and sheep (can turn a 2v1 into a 1v1 instantly)

Warriors…eh…drawing a blank here. As i said thats not acceptable, will never be acceptable and is not hard to understand. Did you see how phase 4 and 5 of SoM ended up? Hello? This is 10x worse .
