Returning player. confused

Hi,

I’m a longtime WoW player but I quit after 2 months in SL to play Classic. Today I logged back into retail because I saw the mage tower is coming back soon and I adored it in Legion. However the moment I logged in I got slapped around with a whole bunch of different quests, scenarios, covenant stuff, popups for a new zone/raid etc. After playing 30 min I did the intro in Korthia but I’m super confused.

Can anyone give me a short summary what’s important aside from dungeons/raids and what I should focus on next? As I said I quit short after launch and I only have an ilvl 200 ish holy pala.

Thanks!

There is lots of guides here that maybe be able to help or if lucky Grainne will come along and help you or Punyelf.

There really isn’t all that much. There is one new dungeon and one new raid which are self-explanatory. Then there is the “Chains of Domination” story campaign which is exactly like the 9.0 covenant campaigns, but all 4 have the same.

There is Korthia, the new daily quest zone where you grind rep, can get 200-233 gear (although 233 needs such a long rep grind that by that time you probably won’t need it). Oh, and Torghast has a few new levels and a talent tree for some upgrades. You need the new currency from there to get up to rank 6 for your legendary.

There is a new world boss in the Maw as well which can drop upgrades for a short while.

And that’s pretty much it.

Before you return I want you to know that they are changing the laying bikini lady painting into a bowl of fruits in the next patch. This may change your mind

I rather advise againts it to return into SL, rather play classic or TBC if you want WoW.
But in the end it’s your choice m8.

Hehe yeah I understand what you’re trying to say, but one of the things I loved about WoW was getting transmogs and mounts, and when I discovered the return of the mage tower in 9.1.5 I got that itch again.

I played a few hours and I can see why I quit. For example I CBA to get my legendary to rank 6, I only have 100k and I’m not gonna raid hc or even normal maybe so why bother.

A friend of mine said yesterday that every time she goes to do something she has to look up Wowhead and YouTube to figure out what she should do and how she should do it. It’s disheartening.

IF all you want is to do the Mage Tower, then all you need is gear (Cue Beatles:

:musical_note: All you need is gear
All you need is gear
All you need is gear, gear
Gear is all you need :musical_note: )

and if you can get that gear through M+ or raiding, then go for it, and spend the rest of your time in TBC.

If you are embarking on the long and dull grind through Korthia instead, you need to know some things.

Korthia currently gives gear equivalent to but worse than Normal raiding, item level 220. It will eventually provide gear equivalent to but worse than Heroic raiding, item level 233.

To get anywhere in Korthia, what you are doing is

a) collecting gear drops primarily from the Rares, though also from the weekly Shaping Fate and the twice-a-week Invasions in the Maw, and

b) Getting rep and Relics with the Archivists Codex to upgrade your gear

And while you can get in to Korthia easily, you have to
a) finish your Covenant Campaign and
b) finish the Korthia Questlines

You will know you have fully opened Korthia when you have The Primus in Korthia and are offered 5 (sometimes 4) daily quests every day.

There is also Death’s Advance rep, but that is less important and faster than Archivist’s Codex.

I knew and hoped you would pop into thread

When your game became so convoluted with systems that your players need a PhD to understand what to do.

You’re not alone! It’s an unfortunate side effect of the myriad of systems in place.
I came back after a couple of weeks in TBC and no longer feeling the nostalgia vibe, and I was lost when I got to 60 in retail.

The people (+Punyelf) who pointed me in the right direction (thanks again guys) have already shared the links that helped me.

About the legendary, if you’re not in a hurry, I have to say the only real hurdle is the price of the AH legendary piece. The rest will “fall” into your lap after a few weeks of just playing the story out and doing the weekly (2x) Torghast runs.
I get that Torghast might be acquired taste but with that box thing (w/e it’s called), it gets super easy when you have a bit of gear and extra perks.

Doing the daily callings of your chosen covenant nets you between 1.5-3k a day in vendor greys and there’s between 100-350g in daily Korthia greys as well.
By the time, you have the ash and cinders required you’ll likely have the cash to get your legendary piece.

Welcome back :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m not so sure of that since it was said that gear, damage and whatnot will be normalized to pose a fair challenge.

The rest of your post is great, thank you for your detailed description!
