I returned to play about 3 weeks ago from about 2012. Everything seems to be on my characters with some item changes that were made on the new expansions But a couple of Characters have less gold on them one had about 500k when i last played in 2012 and a other had about 300k. On returning they both have less than 20k!
Was there a change or devaluation in currency? in the expansion updates? Nothing seems to have been stole and my account was locked from inactivity since i last played.
If you’ve bought a WoW token with gold it could explain your missing gold?
I hadn’t bought anything since logging out since 2012…i have asked around if there was a change of any kind…no-one answers…they jaust laugh…i’m not particularly worried,just wondered why!

But since it has been many years ago, it could be that they are unable to verify what happened with your gold. Usually a compromised account would get everything stripped down to the pants and nothing left behind from other forum experiences.
It was a long time ago,just though it was a change or something in currency.just looked into a Wow Token! never had them years ago,i could have bought some gametime with it if it was available!! thanks for the link i will try it!
