Hey, returning player here
Could anyone please enlighten me as to the current state of world pvp?
I heard rumors that the Legion Battleground system has been put to use in bfa pvp aswell now, so that level and gear matters less, as was the case with battlegrounds in legion. Is that true?
Thanks in advance
With warmode you can only enable it in your capital city. You get a 10% leveling buff while doing quests and killing things with warmode.
You can still of course turn on pvp mode but you will not get the 10% leveling buff.

thanks so much for your answer.
When i enable warmode, will my dmg and level be scaled up like in legion battlegrounds?
I mean, will i have a chance at defeating players with higher ilvl, or will i get stomped as was the case in Legion ? :)

No, your ilvl scales so you won’t get stomped but you won’t kill them either with very low ilvl. Just to give you a chance to escape. Legion wpvp was horrible with some OP legendaries. Luckily we don’t have such things anymore.
The current state is as following = if you see someone dont attack him, just act normally and he wont attack you.
However once you gain enough allies with you then its the time to gank up on that guy. Otherwise, just act normally as if he was never there to begin with.

Since your a Orc it works something like this:
You activate warmode and get +10% exp and wq's rewards, some free loot boxes trought airdrops if lucky. You might also be able to snag some honor by hitting a alliance with a lightning bolt if your quick enought, cause alliance are so rare that it's like a Hemet hunting quest with massive rewards so the whole zones hordes have to sit on it's respawn point.
It's not really that bad, but you get the idea. Atm horde have pretty much free bonuses since most of alliance have abandoned the mode. I did a misstake and went over to a summoning stone with WM on today. It took me a bit over 10 mins to get inside the instance and about 15 more mins before the group realised that any summons whould not be had today. :o)

We just want to make game more social for you.
You group up, maybe even talk to other players, and play with us and against us.
How is this bad? Aren’t you doing the same?

In a nutshell: You turn it on, try to do quests, get steamrolled by Alliance raids. Turn it off and forget it exists.

If you do it for quests - then Yes, you are correct, best course of action.
Just remember, you can always turn it ON, when you want to engage in unscripted free for all and everything PvP in the open world.
