Hey All! After many years away from WoW, a number of friends and former guildmates returned to SOD and have finally twisted my arm to come back too!
Conscious this is ‘another one’ of those posts but I’m hoping to get some advice and guidance from more experienced players as my friends have only been back a short while.
Ideally, here’s what I’m looking for in a class;
- Not largely flavour of the month
- Desired for raid utility and ideally DPS or Tanking
- Strong in solo play
- Once learned/mastered, great in PvP, able to hold its own
- Able to do fun stuff alone, gold or item farm etc
I’ve previously played Shaman but heard they’re mega overpopulated in SoD, Mage sounds fun but I feel like they’d be a bit too squishy and mana hungry for my liking.
As a side note, our guild apparently are looking for a Feral DPS/OT or a Warlock Tank/DPS.
I don’t mind filling one of those classes but keen to hear what others thing based on what I’ve said above

If you play horde, shamans seem quite fun and are certainly powerful in different roles and specs, be it dps or tanking and both pve and pvp.
Everyone was pretty sure they’d get nerf cause they are imbalanced but they flew over P2 untouched and it seems like they will fly over P3 still reigning supreme.
I can confirm the redundancy of drinking with mage. I actually changed main for P3 because of that and am now starting to level my mage hoping the mana issue will be better as lvl and gear improves. It is a fun class but certainly frustrating in pvp since you can get 2 tapped by pretty much everyone. But a well played mage can do a lot and is desired in pve. The option to go heal is a nice addition.
Warlock is an efficient tank in pve but it feels a bit limited atm as destro spec is kinda the only option. Maybe the UA buff next week will allow affliction to shine a bit more both in pve and pvp.
As for feral, you have the best utility in the game (at least on alliance side) and will have no issue finding a place in any raid. I cleared ST on the first week with a feral tank so I can say they are relevant for end game content. They don’t shine too much in pvp though.
Now for the fun solo stuff, gold and item farm i recommend either mage or hunter since they can clear a lot of content by themselves.

Healing priests and druids, warlocks and feral druids seem to be most wanted for raiding
All of these 3 classes are strong in solo play, generally leveling is a joke once you get good runes on anything except warrior.
PvP is a huge mess right now, damage has outscaled health pools and alliance players are getting farmed in the open world because horde queues are getting longer every day, if you played classic in phase 1 and 2 it’s gonna soon be like that
By your criteria, warlock. It checks all the boxes.
