[Returning Player] Priest or Paladin?

Hey all!

After 1.5 years without World of Warcraft I am planning to return to the game. As a father of a 1-year old I will have very limited time to play the game and thought playing a healer might be best to find groups/teams quickly.

Which one though?

Discipline Priest looks great with its aggressive play style, yet hard to learn?

Holy Paladin looks a bit less offensive, yet more sturdy and easier to learn?

After the latest changes: how will the meta develop? Which healer offers more comp variety?

Cheers!

Disc is definitely harder to learn but at the moment if you play it aggressively as I suppose you want to, you won’t do very well.

Hpal is easier to learn and will give you more composition choices.

After the changes it looks like we’ll be heading into a Rdruid meta for the healers. I would normally say play Priest because you have 2 healing specialisations to choose between, but with your circumstances I would say play Holy Paladin. It’s easier to learn with more comp choices.

Why do you think it’ll be druid? Don’t they still struggle too much with bursty shadowlands? Or is priest getting smashed with the nerf hammer?(finally)

Few reasons. Holy Priest nerfs are quite big, I don’t think they’re going to be the clear best anymore.

Nerfs and buffs to other specs indirectly buff Rdru and its comps, e.g. Ret Warr, Splay, Ele Lock, maybe even turbo.

We could see a bit more of a dampening meta form because of the large stamina increases that will come from the new gear, but obviously our other stats also increase so I’m not entirely sure if it will stay the same as now or if stamina will be OP.

It’s just a prediction from what we’ve seen so far from the notes.

Aight fair enough. I do hope other healers become more viable for pugging. I’ve changed off healing cause it’s frustrating even as a priest to use lfg…

Do you need me to explain to you the difference between ‘easy to learn’ and ‘representation due to x y z comp performance’ or do you think you can work it out by yourself?

As I’m nice, I’m going to do it anyway. Destruction Warlocks would have more comp options than a Fire Mage. Destruction Warlock is also easier to learn than a Fire Mage, but as Fire Mage’s limited compositions completely outshines anything Destruction has to offer, Fire Mage sits at the 2nd most represented ranged spec whereas Destruction sits at the second lowest.

Does that sink in?

I would go with disc if you like to play with rogues, mages, hunters and ferals (sort of go oriented playstyle) . Disc is kinda easy to learn to decent point (2.4/current glad level) Hpal imo Very boring compared to priest

I find Hpala the most versatile healer. You can do anything from defensive to offensive plays and be rewarded for it. It fits into a lot of comps historically as well, so if your goal is to play with people quickly I’d say that suits better, where as priest tends to fit better into the meta setup comps (RMP, jungle, thug etc.).

Thanks for all the feedback. How does Restoration Shaman feel at the moment? I see some way up the ladder as well?!

shaman is very hard to play you need to trow 10+ totems on the field and use like 20+ skils.
disc is more fun to play because you can do big damage and heal trough damage but if youre just like to heal only than i shal pick a pala because they can just immune against 1 shot things

1.5 year break, thinking about make comeback in wow into the worst expansion in 17 years and into the worst seasons of the expansion s3-s4 and then thinking about main healer :joy: :+1:

Youre into a treat friend

As you have skipped the 90% of SL so far just skip the rest too and go next  Its pretty much the worst time to come play the game is the honest answer to this op. Even SL as whole has been such flop since launch that I couldnt had suggested wow to anybody on this state. My friends unsubbed to this expansion since start as everyone decided on first months it werent worth a dime

Resto shaman has abit of an odd playstyle if you’re not used to it, but i personally find it to be a very fun spec, so its defo something worth trying out  but as many others has said, if you want something versatile and somewhat easy to pickup, holy paladin is a very good choice

Thanks. I guess I will go with Holy Paladin then.
