Returning players - must own BFA to buy Shadowlands?

Hello, I’m wanting to return to WoW for shadowlands (not played for a few years now) why do I have to buy BFA for full price, just to be able to order shadowlands?

Blizzard… if you want to recall older players, making them pay full price for an expansion that’s basically finished just to order the latest isnt the way to do it.

Surely BFA should be included in the pre order by now with it being a month away from release?

If not… Will BFA be free once shadowlands releases or do I have to miss shadowlands out of principle as i refuse to pay for the previous expansion that I wont use… just to play the shadowlands… its ridiculous, not sure why Blizzard are doing this (Apart from money grabbing of course).

Hi Hexxie,

It used to be that players had to buy all the previous expansions in order to play the latest expansion. Now, generally there is only the “Base” game and the current expansion.

This means a player who hasn’t played since (for example) Mists of Pandaria would already have a “free” upgrade to the Legion expansion and only need to purchase BFA to be up to date. This is pretty great for a returning player - but obviously it varies depending how many expansions since they last played

Shadowlands has not released yet, so there is still the “base” game and Battle For Azeroth which is the current expansion. So, for now, BFA would be required to be able to upgrade an account to Shadowlands.

Thank you for the response.

When will this be added to the base game?

It may sound like a “good deal” to only charge 50 doller to upgrade to an expansion I have no intention of playing to be able to pay 40 dollers for shadowlands then pay my monthly subscription on top, but it really isnt a good deal paying over 100 dollers to buy the latest expansion.

Edit: do you get a free months game time with BFA?

No date set as yet, it’s usually just after launch by a few weeks.

No.

Thank you for the reply! That was really helpful  Doesnt seem worth paying 100 dollars for an expansion when I can wait a few months and pay 40

Whatever you do, don’t pay in Dollars. You will buy the game for the wrong region.

Haha thanks, just using dollers as an example

I agree with you, the system is outdated. I haven’t played the game since september 2019, but bought some game time a few days ago. I can’t do anything except level my characters to 110.

I’ve been loyal to Blizzard pretty much since release, with the one exception that I haven’t played BFA. Now, if I want to return to the game I have to pay 80 euros or wait two months and pay 50 euros for the expansion and game-time. Very disappointing that will likely just make me not play SL at all.

I agree, I think theyve lost touch with their customer base.

Hopefully they will actually listen to peoples feedback instead of just the next PR stunt.

Prime example is the conduit system and master loot.

Master loot removal to reduce tickets at players expense.

Conduut system that the majority of players dont want, just want a fun game and a bit of class love, but not theres a sub system for the main system to fix the issues theyve created that “the community want”

Honestly feels like anthem… how can we throttle peoples progression… such a shame.

Blizz have a great game with a great customers. Juat need to go back to basics and actually listening to constructive feedback and stop over complicating everything.

Seems like were told everything’s a good deal now as it puts money in their pocket.

Rant over… just a bit frustrated that its dawned on me blizz still dont care and havnt learnt from their mistakes.
