I can’t even properly express the frustration I am feeling right now.
The new ONE-HANDED rapier sword that was added with Plunderstorm, is one of the most beautiful weapon models that exist in this game. And guess what?
It is as huge as a flippin’ LANCE. It is 2 meters long, the size of the human player character even. WHY IN THE WORLD do you keep doing this?
This is NOT the first time you have made an excellent weapon model and then absolutely DESTROYED it with overblown proportions. Who thought that is a good idea?
Meanwhile, back in Shadowlands, you literally added new rapier swords for Revendreth, with NORMAL proportions. Why did you just HAVE to make them huge this time around?
And why am I mad? Because I very much like transmogging and I am irritated at the sight of another beautiful weapon appearence being rendered COMPLETELY unusable because of the size.
It is much worse of a situation than with the Expeditionary Greatsword. At least that one was supposed to be two-handed (although it looks three-handed as far as I’m concerned.)
I know the feel. Always hard to find daggers for my rogue that are actual daggers and not swords. As much as the art team gets praised, they have totally lost their touch for “delicate” models since legion, everything is either huge or thick as rubber although it’s supposed to be cloth/leather and not plate.
I fully agree, but I also think part of this problem could be solved for some weapons by introducing a toggle that allows them to be sheathed on the back instead of hip.
And by allowing us players to select a scale. Like DAMN, they have auto-scaling for models already for buffs. What’s so hard giving us players changable Player sizes by using the same model scaling code that is used for growth potions ALREADY INGAME???
If you want extra ridiculousness, I noticed recently that the scale sometimes changes depending on if the weapon is sheathed or drawn. For example, a rogue Vulpera using the Dreadblades; decent and correct size when sheathed, absolutely over the top huge drawn.
Gonna be that guy an say what many are probably thinking . Someone is trying to overcompensate something with the size of his swords .
That being said , the gear overall has become ridiculous . This expansion has some positive changes , like season 2 and the adding of more simpler models , but even the “spears” and other renown weapons look like made from foam and plastic .
The gear often has ridiculous proportions like shoulders , which when the caster cast clip trough the head and look like they are poking their eyes out .
Overall most gear has become power rangers style , with bright colors and unrealistic proportions , looking like a crossbreed between Disney and Asian MMOs .
It feels like gear in Dragonflight was designed by multiple teams and now they are comparing , which one was best .
Probably why we go to “vote” on the look of the set .
With every addition I think that they make the weapons usable by the Pandaren rather than humans. All those humongous weapons of unreasonable size often fit rather well in a Pandaren hand, especially the females. Although I agree that they should make all races look sensible.
the feather on the hilt is stupidly big on some races, i agree it is a bit big. Then again on the subject of other stuff i noticed recently., blizzard broke the jade parasol on male worgen and dracthyr weren’t tested it seems with the hearthstone event hearthstone they added, as you kneel over your hearthstone box rather than infront of it kek
have bug reported it but going off experience and memory, it took them basically all of BFA to amend other glaring visual bugs on items or appearances.
Anyway. Not sure how it is in retail these days, but blood elf females used to get smaller weapons, if I recall correctly (which makes sense, a 40 kg girl trying to swing a mace, she ends up pole dancing). Probably the game has weapon scaling specifically to achieve certain looks (like tauren with big maces on the back, a totem). Maybe the body designer assigned smaller scale to emphasize the character, and then the weapon designer makes it bigger to put emphasis on their work.
I love big weapons personally but I appreciate that others do not. It would be nice if people could have glyphs for this kind of thing to opt into smaller weapons if they so wish.
The difference in size in pretty small between SL rapier and the plunderstorm one, my rogue does the pirate theme and uses them. But I do get your point, it is still pretty big. I would downscale it about 15-20% to fit better.
I’ve often wished for a slider to scale weapons in wow. I try to find normal sized weapons where possible.
I also saw a new Cutlass added in the Plunderstorm which is 2 handed. This makes no sense. The whole point of a cutlass is that it’s small and nimble so it doesn’t get caught up in the rigging of a ship.
Respectfully, I don’t think the problem is solved by fully treating a one handed weapon as two handed. Just scale it down.
But I am in support of a toggle for where you want them to be sheathed.
I am sorry but, if you want a big weapon use Gorehowl, use Apolyon, use whatever. Don’t oversize a -supposedly- one-handed rapier.
Yeah, I saw that too, I was baffled, but I was already too irritated by the rapier to care that much about it. Though really, what the heck were they thinking making such a weapon two handed?
