Just started with a Worgen for the first time ever and got this Running Wild Racial talent at level 10, which I cannot use, because you need to learn the riding skill first. So I’m now level 14 and still cannot find the riding trainer anywhere in Gilneas.
I find it kind of odd that you get abilities earlier than you can even use them. Especially confusing for new players. Would be super if Blizzard could look into this.
I thought running wild was a racial, and you had a key to press to activate it? I don’t recall much of anything in the starting zone of Gilneas as they were all at the point when you escaped.
It was a long time ago mind you when I actually played a Worgen.
Just checked, the trainers are in Darnassus, it was changed some time back.
Taken from Wowhead…
Just in case somebody came here wondering this, and for some reason scrolled down past the joke comments looking for actual information, this racial ability no longer replaces the worgen’s racial mount. Since the Goblins added two mounts to the Horde, the Worgens received a pair of mountain horses not long after they came out.
You have to go to Darnassus, the home of the refuge Gilneans, and make your way North-West to the Howling Oak. Inside are your trainers and such, but just outside and to the left is a little girl walking with some slightly thicker horses. This keeps the mount count the same, though the horses are kind of boring in my opinion.
Yep, I just got to this point at the level of 16. You first have to complete all the Gilneas (Worgen starting zone) quests before you get to Darnassus, so that takes a while.
When the area was released back in Cataclysm, you tended to leave around level 12. Thing is - back then, you couldn’t even get the riding skill until level 20. So all in all, it is simply because in its very design, players weren’t even meant to reach a level where they could mount up. Leveling going faster is just a thing that time brought.
Well, another option they could implement is that the racial ability would not require apprentice riding. And anyway, having leveled through the starting zone now, I can confirm that having a mount would definitely not break the zone
Oh course. I agree with you on both parts. All that I meant to say is that the content you brought up is something very old by now, thus also very unlikely for Blizzard to make changes there.
It’s one of those billion things that are old and broken. You were never supposed to get a mount in any starting zone and Blizzard just never took account of the fact that you might be able to in the future, and they never went back and fixed it either.
This game is a behemoth that has grown far beyond Blizzard’s control.
It was never about tBC nostalgia. Classic was out, if you were nostalgic you could’ve just played that.
It was about the game having an idiotic amount of levels and a huge levelling process that was designed to take 20 hours, resulting in each player doing half of the first zone for every expansion, then leaving, and being, to put it mildly, totally confused.
