Riding Turtle on Trading Post

Hello all.

I’ll start by saying that I think all TCG mounts should be available in-game.

They serve no purpose being related to an out-of-print card game, the only way to get them by buying them with real cash. They aren’t a “feature” of the game, in the typical sense.

I feel the same about RAF mounts. I didn’t mind everything getting the Zhevra, I only had it myself as I recruited a friend more than a decade ago. I was just given to me outside the game itself and it not “game content” as I see it.

The Riding Turtle, a TCG mount, has been added to the game though since WOD.

If you look into Garrison Fishing, you can start grinding and work for this mount in-game right now.

The mount is slow and would never take a slot as a primary ground mount, it’s pretty much a cosmetic conversation piece and serves as another in-game way for fishing fans to show off their dedication to collecting all the fishing related items (rods, gear, mounts).
I grinded it too and have it, yay.

Now, this is mount is being given away on the Trading Post. It’s not functional as a mount really and now won’t even be interesting to see around city hubs.

Unless I’m mistaken, is this a new precedent and the first time an item earned in game (a rare item, too) is suddenly available on the Trading Post?

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. It’s just one mount in a sea of a thousand, and it means lots of players get a new mount for free. Throw it in the pile.

But still, of all the mounts to give away, its an odd one.

PS. The Pond Nettle and the Sea Turtle never dropped for me. Let’s have them next. Maybe the mount from BRF too, no skip makes it a pain to grind and the furnace boss is tedious.

I think its “perfect” for its functionality.
As you described, its a cosmetic, and its a “rare” to see mount, so for Blizz do add it to the trading post will mean, that people will ultimately play more this month to get enough tenders to buy it.
Some collectors that may had decided to take a break, may now stay 1 more month just to get that mount and then cancel.

It is an unfortunate addition, as I could probably think of a lot cooler and better mounts to add to the pool, that wouldn’t at the same time send out FOMO

It’s first and foremost a TCG reward which was added to the garrison fishing place later on. The card/code is still being sold around the net at roughly 100 USD even if they don’t add it to the trading post.

I agree it was originally an iconic TCG card, but it is now earnable “ingame content”.

The WOW TCG only existed in it’s entirety from 2006 to like 2013.

Warlords of Draenor came out in 2014, with Wowhead comments confirming the Riding Turtle ingame as early as that.

The turtle has been earn-able in game longer than the card game existed, which are no longer in print.

Regardless, I don’t see why any of this makes it a good item to plonk the Trading Post.

Imagine if the Spectral Tiger, another iconic TCG mount was suddenly ingame. Exciting!
A big rep grind with rare drops at the end, or a rare drop from a rare spawn mob.
Maybe something like TLPD, a rare roamer and de-spawner. It would be big news at the time.

But then, a year later, the same Spectral Tiger is suddenly on the Trading Post too.
Whats the point?

Well, after I saw that WoD Garrison had the opportunity to drop such a turtle, I came to the conclusion that I would skip it.

To drag people back in the game?
That is the whole point of the trading post.

If it wasn’t to cause some sort of FOMO, and make sure people played every month, they would just make Tenders with a catchup instead of capping it at what 1100 a month?

They know the rarity and exclusivity of the mount will drag some people in. Even if its just 1 person, its 1 person that may have cancelled their sub due to lack of content.

Its the same in MoP Remix. The reason they have super “exclusive” stuff like Tusks of Mannaroth behind a “You need to kill Garrosh 20 times” currency is to keep people playing

Really hate fishing so this is great for me

I hope it isn’t a sign of things to come. Why have this one on the TP when it’s already available (as was mentioned) in-game. Get other TCG items and slap them on there instead. Swift Shorestrider/Purple Puffer/Fishing Chair/Picnic Basket/Tabard of Flame would all be better substitutes for the turtle and all more or less fit the theme of the month.
