Right click's hold breaks randomly

Hello !

I have been noticing something since 8.1 released I think that has been increasingly annoying.

When I hold my right click to move my character (and the camera) , sometimes the “hold” breaks, sometimes for 1/4 of a second, sometimes a 1/2 second, sometimes 2 seconds, and even sometimes indefinitely. It is just as if I released the button and then pressed it again (or sometimes not press it again when it breaks indefinitely).

It is especially annoying when your character stops turning along with your mouse (or even stops moving).

The “hold break” happens during the fist 0.5s of the hold. After that timer, it never breaks (or at least that’s what I thought I noticed).

There are moments it doesn’t happen and moments it does. I disabled all add-ons and it didn’t change anything. The issue is not with the mouse, it works 100% fine outside World of Warcraft.

I found that to be playing for longer makes it more likely to happen more often (which tends to agree with the fact that it is not a problem with my mouse but a problem in the game client), especially some activities makes it happen a lot more, particularly arenas.

When it happens randomly it does not seem to be related to where is the cursor when I click.

For some reason, doing arenas trigger the problem much more and that seems to even make some areas on the screen impossible to right click on anymore. The press just don’t register at all. The area it happens is the middle of the screen. The middle screen registry failure only happens after a handful of arenas (don’t ask me why). Relogging “resets” the issue apparently but it comes back progressively if I keep doing arenas.

I feel like it happens more and more often when I just do world quests, farm random stuff or raid (and that pisses me off…).

Does anyone have any idea of the problem ? I switched to DX12 and AMD’s VSR when 8.1 released (but I don’t really see how it could affect the ability of the game client to register my mouse at random intervals). This is about all the changes I can think of that I made recently.

Every time it occurs I get a little bit more annoyed than the previous time and that is starting to reach the pissed-off level of the day Bear Tartare was removed from the game (which is honestly quite hard to reach).

Thank you for you help,

Tyry,
The priest with the cursed right-click

microswitches in mouses sadly start to break down after X amount of clicks and then start doing this, if the mouse is still under warranty then you should contact the store or the company that made the mouse so they can fix it or give you a new one.

I was about to tell you that my mouse is perfectly fine but I thought I should test it outside World of Warcraft a bit more thoroughly before to say that.

The result is that I am slightly less confident that my mouse is fine. I stand by my words that after arenas I cannot right-click the middle part of my screen at all which is something that has to be related to WoW somehow.

But I do notice that the key press does also release randomly too early also outside World of Warcraft. I guess it is just less noticeable.

Maybe the two issues have nothing to do with one another. I’ll start writing a eulogy and buying a replacement.

If you ever read this, Stuart (that’s my mouse name), I will always remember you and you will always be there with me, in my heart, even though your constructor decided you are not worth assembling any more because you lack shiny LEDs.

Thank you for your comment Ave that questioned my judgment because I guess you were right

releasing right mouse button too early is worn out microswitches, the reason you dont notice this as much outside of wow is becuase you dont hold right mouse button outside of wow

not being able to right click after arenas at middle of your screen is a addon making a no click area there, go ingame and type /fstack so you can see what addon is doing it

and no problem  i also had alot of problems like this so i know how it feels (gone trough 1 roccat kova, 2x logitech g300, 1x razer deathadder, 2x razer taipan)

It looks like its my lucky day after all. Logitech brought my model back (the old MX 518, former MX518 or G400) less than two weeks ago so I guess I won’t have to accommodate to another button layout !

I couldn’t find how old my mouse is exactly but it is likely around 4 years old, used daily for 5 hours or so on weekdays and even more on the weekends (like 13 hours per day possibly). I can’t begin to imagine how much time that accumulates to and/or how many clicks it executed. I guess it lived its life. I will order the replacement and once its there, I will attempt a last resort surgery (EDIT : I can’t link to a very dangerous DIY tutorial on how to repair a mouse button not actuating properly :<) that my clumsy hands will probably miserably fail. If they do I’ll just assume the condition was terminal anyway.

That /fstack seems great too, I will try it next time I do arena to see indeed what is messing with the game client.

Thanks again for enlightening me with your experience, it is much appreciated.

Have in some ways the same but more like when i hold the right mouse button the cursor somehow reset sometimes and if you have the mouse position more on the right of you screen you instant turned 180 degrees its very annoying .
Have disabled all addons etc and still the same problem. its only in wow .

Mmmh. That might be a stupid question but do you have only one mouse plugged in ? If on a laptop I would count the touchpad as a mouse. Maybe the touchpad activates randomly and f**** you up randomly ? Try disabling it if you have one. If not on a laptop I have no clue then.

I started getting same issue. I tried
disable all addons
lift the print inside the mouse (right button activated very close to the buttom compared to the left)
reinstall wow.
change mouse polling rate to 125
Disable hardware acceleration in the bnet app.

Nothing worked. But… I tried connecting my 10 year old mouse and the problem was gone.

So my 1 year old Razer DEATHADDER seems to be worn out already. But my 10 year old razer mice is still fine.

Heya,

Thank you for using the search function to try and find a solution or answer, but please do not bump such old threads.
