It used to be a really good profession to make money. Now, the gems sell for less than 20 golds whereas a leatherworking can make… mail armour? and consumables!? Where in the world a tanner makes a chainmail armour ? Did anyone in blizzard cared to read a damn history book-even for dummies- !?
This professions need some love, by either making gem slots more available or somehow making gems integral part of the game again. R.I.P.
JC is dead as a profession since WOD. It was WOD where they implemented this terrible system of random and rare AF sockets on gear. From TBC until and including MOP your gear had a ton of gem slots available. There was lots of money to be made with JC.
Since WOD this profession has been an absolute joke.
Imo the problem is that Blizzard decided to make it easy, so in latest expacs you can just jump in and get the prof which was a mistake, there are no real efforts no more since everyone just picks it up with the result of loads more f.e. jewelcrafters/ scribers etc…
Its also why u see a zillion multibots all over the place ( and yes I know that has always been around but not like this since they have to do no effort at all at skilling up)
Not true. In legion i earned good money from JC prof.
But in BFA and now in SL is bad.
Leatherworker has been able to make mail gear forever
Jewelcrafters should be able to make and sell the equivalent of belt buckles but for every slot.
No more Venari or Visions, let jewelcrafters have control over gems again
Pretty sure in TBC and in wrath also blacksmiths used to make mail armour
Because you could only wear plate gear from lvl 40 then
Yeah, I finally bit the bullet and unlearned JC on my alt; so now I have a miner/herbalist druid that people are probably reporting because bot meta.
Such a shame. I’ve had that character since TBC, and it’s had jewelcrafting all the way. It was fun when it could make some trinkets, and all raid/dungeon gear had 1-3 sockets, but since BfA it’s been utterly dead.
Frankly, other than Alchemy, it’s hard to recommend any crafting profession in SL. Everything requires you to go real deep and start on those legendary base items; which are fast de-valuing.
Legendaries aside, the ilvl on crafted gear is actually insulting. And don’t even get me started on locking some professions behind Avowed rep. The most boring grind since Timbermaw…
Weren’t we promised professions would be revamped in SL? What happened?
Leatherworking has been making mail gear from vanilla.
If my memory is not off it is atleast from tbc for sure.
Yep from vanilla with dragonscale leatherworking.
I don’t even bother with crafting professions. I just gather and sell mats…
I mean, other than Alchemy I can always recommend rolling Engineering for the miriad of convenience it brings (not to mention a combat res,) double so if you are a class without a Cres/normal res.
WoD Gnomish army knife still works as a res, and eventhough it isn’t guaranteed that it can res you it is still a pretty nice option to have around.
Other than the legendary base items most professions do not have anything else worthwhile going for them, which is pretty sad. I kind of miss belt buckle from blacksmithing, on top of having other semi-decent options you could use on top of enchantments (a rune from TBC blacksmiths could make gave a proc that absorbed 800 from every attack for a few seconds, or the shield spike.)
You know, I might consider that… used to run double crafting with a gathering alt back in TBC/Wrath because actual hardcore guild ![]()
More recently I’ve kept my main (this monk) as alch/herb because I don’t like the idea of having to pull a gathering alt up behind it to start crafting anything… but it’s done now. Levelling to cap, even next expansion, just isn’t that big a deal, really, and world quests really don’t seem to be mandatory so this character is out and about less often than it used to be.
But my druid is just so much better a gatherer. Not losing 3 seconds to mounting every time (rip stirrups…), being able to stay at speed even if I pull aggro, is surprisingly powerful over a long haul, and until we have flying, the power of stealth cannot be understated. Tippy toe through a bunch of elite mobs, ninja the nightshade, tippy toe back.
I will investigate what engineering brings regarding QoL.
Alternatively you can look into Necrolords, where you can craft abominations whom you can use as a mount, and from whom you can even mine without getting dismounted.
Wait, what?
What?
…and here’s me with my weekly vehicle fight that I will never ever do because it’s not interesting or useful ![]()
But I can’t make myself go necrolord. Even for that kind of gameplay advantage
Maybe stirrups will return one day.
does this meen i can get a rank 4 legendery ring cheap now days ?
