Risky playing on account with fake name

Good day,

I am trying to gather some more information about changing the name on the Blizzard account. I tried with 4-5 support tickets so far, but I always get a short answer, that they are not able to do that because my name on the ID is different.

I provided original CD-Keys from almost all expansions I have, Security question, Paypal information, have attached authenticator and email protection. On ID is visible that I have the same home address as on the Blizzard account, which is the same for the last 10+ years.

I know I am the one who is wrong here since I didn’t make an account with my real name, but I had like 17-18 years back then and of course, used only fake names for all games.

What do you think is it safe to keep playing on that account, since I have an authenticator and email protection, Is there a way that I could lose that account.

Thanks in advance.

Well in the case that you lose your account and they ask for ID verification, it will be permanently lost since they cannot cross reference it with a matching name.

The same reason why it cannot be changed now is that it seems to look like a real name, probably.

If it’s obviously fake, like Mickey Mouse they may be able to help but if it’s something like Peter Jones then they probably won’t change it.

Good Luck.

I see, thanks for replay guys. Yeah it is not obvious. But still , have all information about account.

I still have one of my account with fake name for the past 7 years . If you have the required info you cannot lose it . Only problem can occur if some hacker gets hold of it but even then if you have the info like cd keys and genuine information you will get it back with no problem .
Just that you cannot change its name .

Internet anonymity used to be a thing and it would be best for companies to recognize it.
It’s not rocket science to put a flag on the account for a year even, or just keep history.

I’m not even sure that under the concept of GDPR it’s necessary for people to provide real ID details to play a game.

Especially as a child might fall trap to a scam and then all their details are in the open. It’s a subject that people with college degrees struggle with, so at 12+ it’s a very valid worry.

Not to mention any other reason you could get a real life name change.

There must be a stupid legal reason behind it, because it sounds most unhelpful and overcomplicated.

a while ago i faced the same problem,op.
i decided its safer to change it to my real name rather than risk loosing my account eventually.
i contacted customer support and told them of my dilemma and my real name.
they asked for proof of ID and compared my name to the name paying the subscription which ofc are identical; they then changed it.

hope that helps.

You can ready the Privacy statement here however upon creating an account they requested you to fill in your personal (real) name which is covered under legal etc.

In the case of a real life name change if the old name matches the account ID and you can hand over official paperwork proving you changed to a new one this is an option Blizzard can help with.
