Rogue class tuning Season of Discovery

hey we are a angry bunch of grumpy middle aged men with a crisis on the rogue community discord and we are very upset over how season of discovery has treaten the rogue class so far.

  1. shadowstep
i am not sure weither this is a bug or works as intended.

but first of all we have no 20% damage modifier for one ability on shadowstep
It doesn’t work to shadowstep players on ledges.
Shadowstep on global cooldown.

We are very disapointed with this and would like to have our precious shadowstep from tbc 2.4.3 back.

There’s also some weird bug going on if you shadowstep a priest player just as they cast shadowfiend on another player that is nearby to the stealthed rogue.
the rogue gets unstealthed for no reason and even the damage log in game don’t show up why the rogue gets unstealthed as he is taking 0 damage.

secondly.
Combo points.

How it is currently working in vanilla wow as of patch 1.14 is the following.
Your combo points will disapear the moment you target another target.

how we would want it to work is like this.
Whenever you add a combo point to another target, your combo points on previous target is lost.
Reasonings as too why. Currently Rogue is the only class that get punished on resources, by accidentally tab targeting.

We was also hoping that shuriken toss would be a useful rune for cleaving.
but unfortunately it’s worser then just pressing mutilate on 1 target.
It’d be cool if it had 100% chance to proc deadly and instant poison on all 5 target it hit for example.

Redirect.
This is actually one of the things we liked a lot.

however there are some improvements we would like too see on this ability.

  1. range is very short
  2. cooldown too long to have a useful usage in pve.
  3. 15 seconds uptime is too low to be utilized for something cool.

Mutilate being 40 energy.
this is another Really Nice and Woaw amazing change we both love and hate it.
Reasons why we love it, is because it’s busted that mutilate costs 40 energy without even needing a rune for it.

Reasons why we hate it, is because we get the feeling that game developers are forcing us to really go daggers.
Since playing the good old sword weapon style as a rogue which has been a favourite for many years of wow. is just way worser in performance, compared to dagger rogue.

another factor is that some of us rogue players do like outdoor world farming.
we play this game because we find it relaxing slaying monsters over and over.
playing with slower weapons helps riposte damage by a lot.
but now you kind of just feel forced to go daggers since they are just performing so much better.

Angry Grumpy 20 years of rogue experience player has reported what he would like to see improvements on with the rogue class in season of discovery.

Imagine whining about Shadowstep on GCD. Try playing a feral.

Rogues received in SOD:
Damage
Shadowstep
Between the Eyes
Quick Draw
Poisoned Knife
Shadowstrike

Feral got:
Damage
Windfury to buff other melees
?

kick, berserk, mangle, resilience sotf, last stand

stop pretending ferals got nothing
ferals are trash not because their toolkit sux, but because others have ridiculous damage with overtuned runes

You troll on every single post its so insanely cringe.

You cant play with kick and last stand, you will do 0 damage. Stop talking bs.

Feral is 100% trash because of toolkit, when everyone else gets extended Vanilla+ toolkits. The mana issues and dmg levels just compound this even further.

I am also a angry middle aged nerd rogue and it’s not just that:

  • Bear roar => uncovers, 0 damage
  • Freezing trap that has 2000yard AoE => 0 damage, uncovers
  • Warrior shout: uncovers
  • Hoomans with BFD ring can see us almost from shadow step distance…

Let’s say because its some kind of aura effect, well shaman slowing totem does not uncover us. So I guess it’s a bug on the other spells or shaman totem (who is weak and needs some buff)

Hunter canceling combo points by fake death, it’s not enough that their pets are OP AF. Let’s not talk about melee hunters.

Agree

Agree, but personally, I love playing daggers, no complaints there.

Try my build for outdoor mob killing https://www.wowhead.com/classic/talent-calc/rogue/005-02330500205001-05

utilizes most of the good things from combat rogue, deals from 3 builds I have tried the most burst damage to take down a NPC (lvl40-42s 270-450, lvl43 220-250, 44lvl 150-180, 45 is very dependent on NPC, some do a lot of parry and doge, some not, between 80-110dps). Passive crit is 22% (for me), +5% hit, blade furry, backstab/mutilate +30% crit, and +20% damage from behind. works well against players as well.

Also in Gnomer I was able to stay in the top 3 dps, depending on boss 2. and 3. place after melee hunter.

I would add that as rogues we really need cloak of shadows, other classes got so much AoE a instant burst abilities (inc. DoTs) from runes that makes it real hard to enjoy some pvp if i get living flame, living bom, priest dots, walrock dots (passive life drain!) as soon i reveal myself or get revealed by 0 damage dealing AoE abilities.

We are fine, shadowstep is fine… It has it limits ( currently works as instant charge np ) but we dominate pvp… We deal tons of damage ( oke we don’t oneshot ppl like melee hunters ) I’m very happy with our current state… We are fine

Give me the Tbc version of how rogues work and i’ll keep quiete forever
Classic rogue have a some issues.

  1. blind being a poison Very easy to counterplay. just press trinket on kidneyshot and press restorative potion asap.

  2. Losing a good 120 energy worth of resources. due to interrupting a crucial heal on a offtarget in pvp team fights, limits the rogue game play aspect by a ton.

shadowstep being on globalcooldown is really frustrating kekw.
like
a good mage who blinks instantly on cheapshot will be able to
cast sheep on you before you can interrupt them with shadowstep kick.

true, or he can arcane surge for 1200-2400 crits (seen on a video from a horde rogue):
X hits with arcane surge for 1080 (1400 overkill)

or he can just hear you being close and frost nova, run, you step, he blink, you dead.

mages complaining about rogues but they just should stop listening to music and hear the game and have a bit better reflexes.

thats why we need cloak of shadows.

And even this is questionable.

Windfury is an insane buff you clown. What is the point in posts like yours? Blah blah blah feral waaaah I’d swap every single one of those runes for bear form and heals. If you want to be a rogue so badly roll a rogue, ferals are so obnoxious I swear, you’re SUPPOSED to be a slightly worse rogue.

Skill issue allready told you , you wanted to be A Druid that has the whole toolkit and then you want to do more then A rogue that can do anything else. Go reroll

Dude you’re playing the most busted pvp class ever, deal with the fact you won’t get shadowstep off gcd, others don’t have third of your toolkit to begin with.

Is this a joke post?

‘‘the most busted pvp class ever’’

  1. Rogue’s blind is poison do you know how simple you can counter this? It’s called restorative potion.

  2. stuns can now be trinketed with greater insignia of the medallion.

  3. priests can shadow dispersion in stuns. neglecting all damage.

  4. warlocks metamorphis makes it impossible to sap warlocks so you can’t get a proper reset against them.

  5. Druid heh they just press faerifire+bearform and just outlive your burst damage potential

  6. Mages Ahh yes finally a class you can kill without using consumables.

  7. Warriors. ohh whops got one overpower for 900 crit. Dead

The only thing that rogues got up their sleves is the potential to 1vs1 any class thanks too blind.
but you can very easily outplay the blind by using skull of impending doom and or stacking nature res gear or using a restorative potion.

like if anything Rogues are one of the weaker class in high skill ceiling 1vs1 pvp fights.

but ofcourse avarage players who don’t research into pvp will objectively think rogue is the most overpowered class.

can I have a screenshot of OP crits for 900? Max op crit I saw on rogue is 500

PvP is full of backpedalling dad gamers, that don’t know you can off heal, use utility, dispel even if you arent a designated support role. Chances of you finding a 1v1 that would be considered high skill ceiling is pretty low. No MMR system. means 90% of the time you will be fighting some dad who just got home from work has to look after his 4 kids on the weekend, Doesn’t have half his skills keybound and clicks pvp trinket from the character menu, has no map awareness and doesn’t peel for his healer.

Rogue will always be OP to these people. Anyone who lacks any type of reaction time probably gonna have miserable time against rogue also.

Rogue is just a noob stomper. As you said a lot of it is on script you just have to play accordingly. Yeah SoD has changed some things but the fundamentals remain the same. New pvp trinket allowing everyone access out of stun/blind. Opens up more opportunities to counter rogue. It is still gonna be hard for the avg person and chances are will still lose but you have options now at least.

The only complaint i have for rogue as feral, why the hell you guys got 40 energy mutilate with 0 positional requirement while shred takes 2 talent points to be 48 energy and still has positional req. Needs to be buffed by mangle and ideally savage roar/tigers fury rolling to achieve anywhere near the same output. With only access to pounce from stealth you can’t reliably take someones back if they are of equal skill, no kidney (maim) swapping to bear to bash and go back to cat form is still 2 gcds before can even deal damage and chances are if i open rogue hes gonna pop evasion after pounce anyways. So i can bash into root and hope he doesn’t know he can vanish rootbreak even with FF up, Spider belt, Imp Sprint etc. Better to stay bear and try and outlive the rogue with pre frenzied regen on kidney and even then its like 40/60 favourable to rogue. Plus if i try swap form more than 2 times im oom anyway x)

40 energy is way to convenient for you to be able to set up from. You basically never have to wait for 3rd energy tic to damage from opener. Open CS on 1sec into server tick start fight with 60 energy, mutilate, server tick, mutilate, now have 5 combo points and target is already half hp and CS has only just ended and you now have enough combo points to kidney in the next window, can dead zone basically every melee with crippling poison up wait for 1 sec into the 80 energy tick to kidney, now you just entered 5 sec stun with 75 energy worth of back to back mutilate without needing to tea energy will refresh after first muti and youll be on 55 to do the follow up. You can kill someone in like 12 sec with most of that time them being not able to play the game. Or you can kill them in like 6 and just pop tea instead. The only out from this for most classes is 5min pvp trink and you can do this reliably with no CD’s.

Do same opener but ambush instead of CS, a little bit of lucky RNG with crits, and you just deleted someone with Ambush > Muti > Muti and didn’t even have to pop tea to do it, or set up any type of a stunlock to achieve.

Clothies outside of Dispersion, Meta lock/SL, Ice block probably get deleted with the above combo

Backstab was very strong but at least got limited by 3 energy ticks and positional req needing to set up stunlocks/gouge to perform it. Now any lukewarm temp IQ rogue can, CS Muti Muti or Ambush Muti Muti just by looking at energy refresh before they open.

So i’d actually argue the skill floor lowered for rogue, the difference between “good” rogue and avg rogue got smaller in terms of damage output/time to kill. The only place that the ceiling is really relevant is in control. An average rogue will not take advantage of the amount of control they have over the enemy team. A really good rogue will every single time they engage in group fight.

Also not a QQ posts, just saying it how it is lol

i mean idk if i am undergeared but i can gurantee tell you that with, 387 attackpower 13,2% chance too crit 3% hit chance. Epic Dagger from STV and Raid. that as a sub rogue.
with 2/2 dirty deeds which allows your cheapshot to cost 40 energy instead of 60 energy.

You are putting people down to 60% hp.
in Wait energy tick CS Muti Gouge KS Muti Muti.

Then you blind sap Cs+Muti+Gouge+Ks+Muti+Muti = dead.

Like there’s no way you are doing 100% to 0% hp in a kidneyshot against any players.
unless they are glasscanons with 0 stamina pieces.

This isn’t my full pvp gear i swap neck out to wsg neck and chest to BFD chest, and idk what spec the rogues are playing ofc outside of muti, but i can die to rogue in bear in that exact combo if i dont have pvp trinket off cd and pre frenzy the kidney

I should add though if i go full FC spec in bgs with survival instincts etc and bear i can survive the opener but i don’t do enough damage to actually kill rogue through evasion x)

Ew. No. Why would you tell that to a person?
