I understand this is an RP server, but there will be no RP for me if I don’t get this class down lol, I am determined to master it in both ways up and content, so either advice would be great. I find myself struggling with melee emotes and don’t know a single thing about stealth RP, also tips for outlaw or just survivability in general for a rogue would be helpful, thanks!
This one can be done in a few ways, but two main ones I know of:
Actual shadow magic to conceal yourself (From sight only, you can still be heard and smelled, and your footsteps can be seen too on certain terrain like mud/snow)
Using the environment to conceal yourself, so hiding in foliage of bushes or up in a tree, masking your smell so sharp noses don’t pick up on you and moving slowly to avoid detection and not disturb said foliage too much.
Now from my experience it’s generally frowned upon to simply use the rogue’s in game stealth ability to follow someone, since your emotes cannot be seen whilst you’re in stealth and folks won’t know you’re there, this can be worked around by using toys to make your character look more spectral/transparent (Like a toy called ‘Spectral Visage’.)
What Sheedai said pretty much, with the added mention that stealth doesn’t have to necessarily imply magic. You can also just go for keeping a low profile and trying to blend in with whatever environment your character findself itself in. Dress the part, act the part.
As for melee emotes (I assume you mean combat) it’s entirely dependent on what weapons and fighting style your character is using. Looking up HEMA techniques might help in regards to ideas for how to write your emotes, though keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be melee, you can also use a bow if you like just as much.
Gameplay wise you are pretty much dependent on RNG as an Outlaw rogue, with Roll the Dice being probably the most important ability you have due to the various boosts it provides. As for survivability you have a few decent abilities such as Crimson Vial, Feint, Evasion and Cloak of Shadows that can, in order, increase your HP, reduce AOE damage, reduce single target damage and make you immune to magic damage. If you get to low HP you can use vanish to stealth away and drink a crimson vial. You can also use cloak of shadows to get rid of any lingering DOT on you before vanishing so it doesn’t temper with you remaining in stealth afterwards.
It’s worth mentioning that arcane magic is a good alternative to void/shadow, the old evasion effects were very much arcane-esque. And there’s dozens of quests where arcane magic is used for stealth, hell mages literally have an ability to go invisible. It also doesn’t come with the downsides of shadow dabbling.
This too yes! Forgot to mention that arcane can be used to stealth so if you want a slight twist to what your rogue uses to hide themselves then go arcane!
And it ain’t too overpowered either because you have just as many instances of magical invisibility being noticed either by other mages, demon hunters or numerous quest items.
I barely play my character Blondie as the run-of-the-mill rogue. She’s more like a light-weight warrior who fights dirty, uses guns and grenades, and relies on speed to get the upper hand of larger or stronger foes.
When it comes to stealth its mostly that she’s, like stated above, hiding in the bushes or tall grass, using the darkness to hide herself, such and such. Unlike a subtlety rogue who uses shadow magic to hide itself, an Outlaw mostly uses it’s environment, but that doesn’t need to be for your character of course.
My advice is to just level your outlaw rogue a bit, feel how it plays. Play around with the transmogs a bit. And slowly make up an story or fighting style for the character.
Is it a warrior? Is it a rogue? Is it an artist who trains herself in swordplay?
What kind of work does your character do? Is it a bard? A bandit? A mercenary or Bounty Hunter? Is it a traveling merchant?
Depending on your profession you’ll probably carry different gear around. A mercenary often wears light but reliable armour as it needs to travel around a lot. A bounty hunter often equips itself with weapons and items to catch their bounty alive. The bard of course, uses charm and carries around instruments to perform. And a merchant perhaps just carries some sword and a good ol’ pistol with them to protect it’s merchandise from bandits.
So that’s my advice really. Make up a character. Immerse yourself into it’s situation or profession. Decide it’s combat style based on that. You can always look up real life counterparts of an profession and see how they armed themselves, and why they used those specific weapons. But it’s still Warcraft. Reason isn’t a promise to the High Fantasy setting. So just make up whatever you like. Good luck!
