Rogue Tanking in P4 - Do they not care? Are they even trying?

I guess this is a case of be careful what I wish for?
We’ve needed an AOE move since the start and now we get 3 at once all on the same slot. Pulled from other expansions so that we can once again have no real choices in a slot but to simply wait and see which ever one sims best for each spec.

To me this screams that the SOD devs really have no idea what to do with rogues, especially tanks. We still have to spend a rune slot on blade dance, which if the set data mining is true will be mandatory if you want to use the tanking set.
Rolling with the punches is still this annoying stacking thing rather than a passive bonus which means it can fall off against slow attacking or casting heavy bosses.
Saber Slash is getting nerfed, why?! Rogues are so fed of Mutilate but we’re being forced into it every time.
The new poisons are basically DOA because we can’t afford to lose our OH poison or WF.

As for the new runes, FOK hits like a wet sponge and doesn’t even generate CP. Nice that shuriken toss generates CP now but why not just make that our AOE move and give us interesting cloak runes. No one’s taking shurikens over Shadowstep now that it’s OGCD. This would’ve been perfect to give us a decent defensive like COS!

Main Gauche and Shiv may as well not exist.

If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to tank dungeons and maybe some raid trash. But without some serious rethinking Rogue Tank will continue to be the biggest failure of SOD. All the other tanks have more options, defensives and utility.

I guess we can kinda do lots of damage sometimes? But If I wanted that then I’d be playing a DPS and not a tank.

P.S. Shadowstep being OGCD is amazing and it should always have been this way.

Just did full brd clear.

AOE threat will not change from p1-3, and still will be bad in p4

  • Blunderbuss: do great aoe Threat/DMG but 20sec CD and 4 targets.

  • Crimson Tempest: not for threat (dot) guess will be good for dps if target dont die quick.

  • Fan of Knives: cost 50 energy and poor threat (Not enought to keep aggro), Sure T1 Set bonus will fix it, but why not give rogue that as passive? While Just a Flesh Wound and Blade Dance are active, Fan of Knives costs 50% less Energy and generates 100% increased threat.

Just a Flesh wound and Blade dance should be reworked, flat out boring to keep up blade dance, without Cut to the chase, and make sword spec useless vs mutilate,

If i think of a rogue tank, its not daggers that comes to mind.

Would be fun it they made Subtlety working tank spec, with hemorrhage and Setup, but the theat would be thrash.

i am not a rogue and never was… but i could imagine that this idea of a evasion based rogue was funny but has too many downsides and now slides under the table.

Fan of knives generating more threat when in tank mode is the same literally dogwater that was said for shuriken toss.

I don’t understand any of the rogue build mentality. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

There is SO many glaringly obvious issues with rogue

Slaughter from the shadows. - pointless
Deadly brew - 100% required for DPS and taking anything else is smooth brained
Tanking requires so many runes and it’s sucks
Shiv - pointless
Main gauche - unusable or it is usable if you want to generate 0 threat and do 0 damage for a small parry increase. Which is only probably good when facing packs but which rogue fails to take anyways because you do no where near enough aoe threat and taking main gauche would be a really stupid idea for tanking in aoe lol
Poisoned knife - if this is in the game… Why the hell is shiv still in the game?

Ah the more you look at these runes the more it makes little.sense to me.
Surely the design team should be like… How do we want rogues to work. I know let’s do the following :-
A poison build with mutilate - easy
A bleed build
A combat build
A tanking build.

Right how should these work

Then go for it. Instead you have the poison build which is OP Vs everything else and basically brain-dead to play.
And nothing else other than a wonky tanking build.

Keep your mutilate build.

Move slaughter from the shadows. Make it have a chance on backstab to proc out an out stealth ambush cos “procs” are such a simple endorphin release example game play it would make it exciting seeing ambushes going off every now and again

Make a bleed build with hemo maybe. You know. Where all you bleed talents are. Make there be an out of stealth garotte proc. Then because it’s all bleed over time. Make eviscerate proc a 10s of exsanguinate where bleeds tick twice as fast or something. That way eviscerate is actually you know… Used.

Make combat a cleave build. Saber slash crits reduce the CD of blade flurry. Get rid of the multiple stacks of bleed damage for it hits 2/3 mobs and applies a bleed to each. Main target takes 110% weapon damage off targets take 55% or something and that double hits during blade flurry.

A few ideas. I don’t know why I even bother mind cos mpst people just laid a edited by moderator on you when you offer suggestions

But there are some of my suggestions for rogue.

I have about a million for everyclass. And most of them involve fairly simple gameplay with a simple proc that makes something light up and do a bigger thing than others.
