Roleplay as a dragon?

The only times I’ve seen Dragon RP was weird ERP characters. Insanely strong Dragon dudes stood for no reason in Stormwind. Or backflipping off law enforcement, turning into a dragon then flying away to get away from trouble

No, I said he’s “Dragging down Eversong” with his golden eyes. Green eyes or btfo.

Shut up u green eyed slimeball!!!

Even before the swarm of withered attacks Senegos, the blue flight need the PC’s help to stop the withered predating blue drakes and whelps. These are mostly mindless mana addicts, unarmed and nude, wandering around the wilderness hunting dragons for sustenance - and the dragons are losing that fight! Compare that to the power on display in Wyrmrest Temple during Wrath, and it’s a pretty stark contrast.

They aren’t at the height of their powers, and haven’t been since they explicitly gave them up in Cataclysm. Even taking a moderate approach to the PC’s power level, if you consider any of the stuff you do in Legion part of your character’s story, you’re probably pulling ahead of your average dragon. If your mage is a member of the Tirisgarde, the Aspect of Magic is explicitly your peer, and is equivalent in power to the skilled mortal wizards you work with.

So are you talking about average order hall member or PC, then? Because being weaker than the PC is the rule, not the exception for nearly every creature in WoW.

Used to rp a lot in the Caverns of Time with my Human Timewalker and came across at least 2 guys who did it well, they would only rp there anyways so it was appropriate.

You need to be exceptionally good at doing the things your class does to be a member of any of the order halls. I guess maybe not the Earthen Ring? But for the most part, the intro to all of them involves an NPC telling you about how only the most highly skilled members of your class get an invite to the secret clubhouse.

I’m saying that if you discount the whole, “you’re the chosen one who wields the Doomhammer and can lead us all,” thing that’s part of the PC’s story, if your character is just a part of the Unseen Path or the Black Harvest or etc. without being the Chosen Hero, that in itself puts you at a a pretty high benchmark for competence and ability.

Meanwhile, the whole blue dragonflight questline in Azsuna specifically turns on how weak and helpless the blue flight is after the events of Cataclysm, to the point where they’re in danger of extinction in their own homeland - and not even due to the Legion invasion, but because a bunch of starved mana addicts wandered over and started hunting them for food.

turns out mana suckers are super effective against old man magic dragons, who knew?

RPing a drake instead of a fully grown wyrm will likely ward off most of the eye-rollers and their cynical inclinations, especially if you give off the vibe that you aren’t on the character just to flex your computer game e-peen or to catch some cyber poonani. If your character isn’t a haughty reptilian overlord, but instead a young and curious, mystical creature with some sort of creative task (a ready and plausible reason to RP where-ever you are RPing!), people will be happy to acknowledge and engage with you.

If I were to RP as a dragonkin, I’d probably go for one of those centaur-esque dragonkins (I completely forgot what they’re called.)

EDIT: Dragonspawn is what they’re called.

That isn’t true, unfortunately. Regardless of your IC age people still roll the eye.

I RP a green dragon (rarely), I rp with druid types, in wild areas. I avoid combat, because A. I hate RP combat and B. I don’t want to end up feeling like I’m going over the top. I prefer the friend to druids and healer outlook.

When I role-played as Meralygos he was disguised as a member of the Kirin Tor. He was a teacher in both transmutation and a theoretical discipline which was about a safe usage of the arcane magic. I have fond memories of many occurrences but the best ones are always when you role-play as a dragon alongside a solid circle of friends that can back you up and with whom you can create stories together. Of course, as role-play is meant to be a collective effort, you may wish to be careful about whom you wish to reveal your identity the first times you RP a dragon.

I believe role-playing as a dragon can be entertaining. It is a new race with unique lore and a strong symbolism that predates modern era. It is likely the oldest mythological race that you can role-play. They come with their own racial background - it’s worth giving it a glance.

When you role-play as a dragon, there are many things you have to consider. What flight will he or she be? Red, bronze, blue or green? I’d recommend one of these.

For dragons, you can find a lot of useful informations here:

I’d say there’s a fairly open spot for black dragon, if Islands and recent lore is anything to go by too. Just advisable to do your research before going into that sort of dragonflight. Hopefully if there’s any Dragon Isles introduction of the horizon, we’ll find out a lot more with what’s going on in that area at least too. Likewise with the rest of the flights.

I wouldn’t know. Unless I’ve lost some details, there are just two black dragons out there, them being Ebonhorn and Wrathion. It is a shame because the lore itself is focusing on these two characters in the next patch and also they seem quite edgy (plus black is the new black).

I am not here to tell people what they shouldn’t RP and if they want to RP a black dragon who am I to tell them otherwise. With the weird situation the lore has thrown itself, it becomes harder to discriminate what can be done from what can’t be done. But so far what we have is that black dragons haven’t (yet?) returned, so it may require a bit of creative writing.

They appear in island expeditions. You take a scale to Wrathions agents. And the Outland ones remain.

I don‘t really agree. Most are a pretty mixed bag of power levels. Rogue, paladins, priest, monk I can think of right now at the top of my head. There‘s plenty of minor NPCs in every order hall that I can‘t agree could hold up against a dragon. I also don‘t think you can take one questline involving the arguably weakest dragonflight and just judge the rest of the dragonflights based on that.

Would also appreciate the „explicit“ quest/dialogue or whatever that states the members of the Tirisgarde are equals to the aspect of magic in power level.

I personally know of only one dragon rp’er that did it well, but she sadly does not play the char that often. The char’s a red dragon but open about it, and whenever she visited events she didn’t hog all the spotlight there was, even going so far as to get backed into a corner by a group of ethereal npc’s, so it’s also definetly not a char to flex power with.

So yeah, dragon rp -can- be done, but do some good research into which flight you are playing and for the rest, use common sense ( as far as that exists in wow lore).

You forgot about Sabellian who’s still chilling in Outland. Then again I think even Blizzard has forgotten his existence.

Personally feel it’s fun to explore that side of that flight, what with them being/having been suspectable to corruption in the past. Going through rituals, spells or whatever you name it to ward themselves away from such a fate that quite a few of their brothers and sisters have fallen into, in the past whilst also living their way of life/pushing forwards with their agenda Ebornhorn + Wrathion as you’ve already mentioned for example.

I’d definetly throw in the other flights before hand though, since it’s likely the more difficult one out of them to create a narrative for and in general roleplay.

Dragon RP is notorious on AD for attracting players whose enjoyment comes from flexing their imaginary power on others.

But that’s not to say it’s inherently bad. Dragons are a cool, established part of the setting and they absolutely can be portrayed well. Just like with every other concept, it takes a good roleplayer convincingly pull it off.

I thought those in the expedition were just dragonmen - my bad! Then they still exist.

Yeah, I recall that guy. He’s cool (and still corrupted) tough as you said, I believe even Blizzard forgot about him.
