As good a place as any to ask, but I am curious what guilds will accept the Dracthyr.
I imagine they are going to have the same stigma the DKs and DHs had at their launch, being the new “thing” and all.
Thought I would ask though since I am genuinely interested in RPing one but don’t want to be in one of those guilds themed around the new hotness that dies within two weeks.
If past experience is any hint, you will see a number of “Dracthyr only” guilds sprout forth in short order. Most or all of which will wither once the initial FOTM has worn off and the shine begun to fade.
In the end I would expect Dracthyr to feature in Kirin Tor and spellcaster oriented guilds. Exceptions apply to RPers who will almost unavoidably use the visage models to play as half elves, naturally, who may get a pass among the Eastern Kingdom Alliance guilds.
You can’t get rid of the scales, so those half elves will have skin issues.
Oh, I thought you could pretty much hide it. My mistake.
Weird genes flaring up buried deep in the generations as we all know humans will mate with anything.
You can pretty much hide it, but! there is always some scales around the forehead.
Hmmm I don’t know of many Kirin Tor themed guilds…
I know there is RP in Dalaran but is it popular at the moment? Every time I have passed through there of late it’s felt rather quiet when I do the odd bit of Legion content or head to a Mythic dung.
Psoriasis Half-Elves, coming soon to a barbershop near you!
It hasn’t been my most frequently visited hub in some time, but Kirin Tor Intelligence was around when last I saw. As for Dalaran in general… I mean it’s a mixed bag already, I’d wager good gold on Dracthyr becoming a semi permanent addition same as Vulpera.
I will give them a look thanks alot!
Not something I’d want to inflict on anybody.
I suppose, green or maybe red dracthyr would be appreciated among druids. Connection to the Emerald Dream and life manipulation is their thing, after all.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think there’s any connection between dracthyr colours and powers/abilities, so any druids showing preference towards red and green ones would just expose own their ignorance - unless of course it’s the first time they’re meeting/hearing about the dracthyr.
From what I have seen in the Alpha a Dracthyrs colour dosen’t mean they are going to be associated with the Dragonflight they may look similar to. That being said however…
Summary
There is a quest I saw where a Bronze coloured Dracthyr joined the Bronze Dragonflight where they help with time magic, so there might be some loose connection? Like ones coloured green might favour magic of that colour or grasp it more easier than the others? Only speculation though mind.
I glanced over some of the Healing Wing NPCs and they seemed to mostly be bronze+green dracthyr, which matches the healing spec appropriately.
While Blizz might say scale colour doesn’t matter, and while it might not for player characters, it certainly does seem like they’re soft-pushing that they do matter, otherwise you’d expect to see a full range of colours.
Granted, I didn’t look very hard, maybe there is more variation I missed, but it didn’t seem like it from watching a vid on youtube about them.
I can definitely see this being a thing Blizz will push as well, but I also feel like it would contradict the very reason the dracthyr exist to begin with, being an amalgamation of “all” five flights.
Not that it’d be the first time Blizz contradict themselves within 5 minutes.
It does make sense tbh.
Colour coding makes it easy for casual players to understand what’s going on, while saying “scale colour doesn’t matter” lets players have all the customisation they want without feeling restricted - though I expect many will end up playing to type anyway regardless, because…well, again, colour coding just feels ‘right’.
I think how they’ll make it work is say that the colour of their scales might be what they’re more connected to. After all Evokers are the elites of the Dracthyr so it stands to reason your average Dracthyr might not be able to use all the powers of the different flights and might only be able to use one or two effectively.
I mean, all very well but what about the people who choose white scales or grey? (I already know purple is going to be roped into the black dragonflight)
They’ll be the exceptions not playing to type, of course. There’s Infinite dracthyr too. Like I said, many will play to type, but some will actively choose not to (green scales with kaboom magic) and some will be one of those not reflected by the five core flights who’ll do their own thing. They won’t be wrong to do so.
I suspect this is more a matter of displaying the kinds of magic they’re known for in an easy to digest way more than it being an actual thing in the lore.
Just taking what we already know/assume and applying it to this new race. But in reality, Dracthyr are all technically Chromatic Dragonkin.
But, y’know… Chromatic Dragonkin that coincidentally look like the flights whose magic they use.
