Hey I am quite new at roleplay, and now I find myself in doubt;
how does one roleplay an Alliance Druid the ‘right’ way in Battle for Azeroth, in particular after the event of War of the Thorns?
I realize that the player choice was only introduced later on, and not all that happens in the quests nessesarily takes place in RP (?), but surely, the Druids of the Horde would not have been anywhere near the warfront in Ashenvale and Darkshore, that took place right before the burning of Teldrassil?
If they did participate, would such acts not shatter the bond between Druids? How is the bond between Druids now, after the War of the Thorns?
There is an event that takes place on the Horde side, that I would like to participate in, but I am not sure- In Character - which attitude my character would have. Given her history and loss she experienced in the events that led up the the Burning of Teldrassil, I imagine she would stay far away from anything that even remotely has anything to do with the Horde.
But what about Druid to Druid, across factions?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer
I have the same questions as a paladin, only even more pertinent as paladins of both factions can be seen actively fighting each other. What happened to Legion-era Silver Hand? Is it disbanded? Do they have no rules against killing each other for ephemeral overlords?
Most Horde druids we see are centered in Silithus, taking care of the wound. Alliance druids can actually be seen actively fighting in Darkshore against the Horde, but no Horde druids to be seen there.
A delightfully difficult dilemma! Essentially, I believe it to be a matter of personal desires and expectations from society. From the War of the Thorns all druids are now faced with a clash of interests between their factions and their druidic society. Some druids may make an absolute choice by either indulging in warfare or shunning it entirely, but I believe most druids to struggle with a lingering ambivalence. How does your character make tough choices from the friction between love and duty? Through respectful immersion and delicate interaction, which is my definition of ‘good’ roleplaying, there are many ‘right’ ways to find out. When you gaze into your character, your character also gazes into you.
There’s no single right way to roleplay a druid. There’s plenty of things to keep in mind - your training emphasized the balance of nature, how to ensure it works in harmony, how to live with it while also maintaining it, etc. - but in the context of this specific expansion, I think you can pick one or more (possibly conflicting) motivations from the following list:
There are so few Night Elves left, we must protect them.
The war upsets the balance of nature at every turn, we must tend to it.
The Forsaken especially pour their vile blight upon everything, we must find a way to fix it.
Many ancestral lands were taken from the Kaldorei, we must retake them before they are lost forever.
The Horde must fall.
Azeroth is literally bleeding out of a massive stab wound and it’s bursting up everywhere. Saving her is the highest priority imaginable.
Thank you so much for all your feedback and insightful tips!
@ Xarthat, that is a good point, about no Horde Druids to be seen there; I guess, that I just recalled encountering Horde Druids, when the event was taking place, but perhaps my memory is throwing me off on that one. Thank you
@ Dulvarinn, you raise a fine question - and I can see, that it most of all comes down to how each individual Druid´s personality is wired, though with a few guidelines already in place.
These are fascinating times to roleplay, certainly not dull, given all that has happened.
That is what I have realized too, and why i find it so interesting; sometimes, ones character appear to get a life on their own, which surprises me! Thank you
@ Talraea, I can see there is a lot of “room” to maneuver around in, and there certainly is no “one way and only one way” to roleplay after these events, you are right.
The things you have listed are helpful to keep in mind, and it puts things more into perspective on what is taking place right now, that could be having an influence in the way a character thinks. Thank you
Afaik Turalyon came and took over and pushed the Horde Paladins out. And Liadrin (i think the “lore”-Leader during legion, as She protects Tirions grave against the DK-Incursion) went back to fight for her people.
Some very good points there, I hadn’t considered the element of the Horde Druids mostly being in Silithus, so still kind of doing ‘good’ and not ‘bad’, so perhaps there is some level of understanding from the Alliance druids, and especially the Cenarion Circle.
For the Alliance ones its trickier, both Kaldorei and Gilneans lived in Darnassus, so it really does vary between disgust at the loss of life, or absolutely vengeful rage, even Malfurion gives in to that, in the ‘Terror of Darkshore’ Cinematic. It depends how much it personally affected -them-, whether they lived elsewhere or had a more intimate connection with the place, friends, lovers, families.
My Kaldorei Druid has left the Cenarions and is going full on Malfurion mode in Darkshore, as a guerilla fighter, but then he was always a fairly militant soul…
Probably he meant that he spit on the neutrality and joined Malfurion to take Darkshore back from the Horde. My Druid isn’t in Darkshore. She is still in Zuldazar and kill every Void Elf there because they corrupt the brood of my Loa Gonk.
Yep, that’s what I meant. He still believes in the Cenarions as a power that can do some good, and he didn’t exactly throw a hissy fit and go “to Hell with you guys, I’m going home”, but he has headed over to Darkshore to join the fight. Will he rejoin? Who knows, depends how Time will tell…
I think that you don’t even have to justify yourself if you want to join them again. I mean, Malfurion is one of the leaders of the CC. Do you think that Malfurion will be neutral after the war? I think he will because he worked many years with Tauren and Trolls in the emerald dream already
