Roll " Need " on items for your Off-spec. Is it OK? 🧐 Discuss!

It is a good manor to not roll need on items your character and spec dont use in that specific moment.

-For example elemental shaman need on +Agility becuse they want to play dual spec.
-Dps for tank items (parry and so)
-For example people roll need because of transmog reasons
-For example roll need because it sells for gold.

What do you think is OK?

Im running alot of dungeons and this seems to be a problem.

What I do is I usually just ask “Mind if I take for OS?” 99% of the time people either don’t respond cus they do not at all care or they just go “sure”.

Other times I look at the group setup, I’d never roll need on a plate tank item against a plate user. But if I am there on a plate user and the tank is a druid or the plate user doesn’t need it, I don’t think rolling need is bad, just make sure to ask the group first.

I think rolling need “because it sells for gold” is absolute clown-shoes behavior tho.

Good etiquette would be to only need if none of the “mainspeccs” need it, but good etiquette is rare these days.

I always follow the good etiquette, rolling need only for items for the spec I’m participating with, and reward for that is that I get kicked for “low gear” when I enter the dungeon in secondary spec.

Despite that, I still support these rules that loot priority should be MS>OS.

Of course you are allowed to do roll on literally everything. But the nice way would be to look if anyone of the main spec users rolls need on the certain item or just ask (although many people in random dungeons don’t respond to messages at all).

Yes if you can use it for off-spec and no one else in the dungeon is main spec who needs then it’s yours.

I’d say this.
When a new expan is released and everyones getting pre bis & working hard to gear up. I think it should strictly stay on your actual MS & greed or need if no one else needs for OS.

But when its months into the expan and even catchup is out. Need for your OS 100%.
It is fine.

Let’s say i’m a fully geared MS guy who went dungeons to get some off-spec gear (for example i went as tank to get some dps off-spec pieces) - will be kinda strange not to need.

Well on release of an expan it’s just decency. As alot of people queue specific dungeons to get that pre bis before raid release.

But when a few months in, especially when the new catchup dungs are out it’s whatever. Most people can get full VP gear really quickly.

To be honest it does not really matter if you are at day 1 of xpac or day 999 , there will always be “new” players and literally telling them “yeah you are late and im king douche so you get no gear muahhaha” …

To be fair blizzard should NEVER have let dps roll on tank/healing gear period regardless of offspec but they always where/are lazy and introduced the worst loot system ever “personal loot”

Then Que as dps … simple as that and the exscuse Oh but it takes so long … yeah it did for the ACTUAL dps you are ripping off aswell ! …

By then theres catchup dungeons. And the gearing is nowhere near as rough or annoying as prior. And you get as much valor as to buy 3 tier pieces. That does not exist in day 1.

So the “yeah you are late…” argument doesn’t really work here. No pant 346? Dw just buy the 359 version. And even better later on. And now you also get double the valor from the new dungeons.

This is a fair point. Even more fun when you played clothie in prior expans and had druid, shaman, pala etc roll on your gear  And you could not roll on theirs.
