Rp and druid spells and spells in general i suppose

Now i may not be 100% correct with lore but how do people that roleplay a lot feel about druids using forms etc? more specificly in more none nature areas where druids magic is supposed to be basically useless.

I always wondered how advance u can go with your spells forms etc on mages, priest and druids. I always feel like everytime i see mages they are always some archmage or really strong mage druid w.e and wanted to hear waht the general idea of it is and whats to much if that makes sense

I don’t think you need to be in non-nature area to be able to use druidic abilities (some of which are Sun/Moon/star based anyway). In War of the Ancients trilogy, Malfurion brings seeds with him so he can always have plants he can grow to fight enemies (basically it’s portable Entangling Roots).

In term of forms, I’ve often seen people RP druids based arpund one form, so Druid of the Talon, Druid of the Claw and so on. But there’s nothing stopping one from being able to learn more than one.

For mge RP, people tend to use lore from Schools of Arcane Magic books from WotLK Dalaran (you can click on each book in the list on this page)
https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Higher_Learning
While it shouldn’t be seen as hard canon (since it’s 16 years old lore at this point and is aKirin Tor in-world categorization anyway), it’s a good way to add flavor to a mage character. Most often I’ve seen people have their mage specialize in two of these (not necromancy though + there’s also hints to one more school, Evocation, which isn’t secified). It also helps with not making them OP by virtue of versatility (same problem druids who can use all forms have).

Some people also like to go with ice/fire split and limit power of their mage that way (although personally, I think this is far less limiting than people think, at the end of the day if your mage can create food, portal everyone anywhere, see everything, detect all kinds of magic, create powerful shields and wards, and turn invisible, they will feel OP even if the player decides that they can’t make fire).

And then there are 20 years old Archmages, can’t do anything about those people.

I’m a warrior, roleplaying a druid, and there’s a lot of toys and trinkets that help with ā€œcastingā€ nature spells or mimicking druid abilities.

I do have ā€œconstraintsā€ on my character that the effects of spells and abilities work better when in nature magic rich areas then when in a city like Dalaran for example.
But that’s more because my character is still learning, and is just an apprentice.

Which ties into this. I think it’s completely fair to play with having a disadvantage when being in non-nature areas or corrupted areas, but this is also not mandatory. Really boils down to what you consider important for your own roleplay.

Technically speaking, you can go as far as you want. Nothing is stopping you with this.
All I’d recommend is ā€œto read the roomā€, and check whether what you’re trying to do fits the situation you’re in.

Just use them.

I don’t care, just be consistent with it. Don’t tell me ic or ooc that your character has some hard limit on being a cat in x place because there’s stone or something then a few days later prowl around in the same or similar place as a cat with no explanation outside of a shrug.

I don’t care what limitations you put in yourself, don’t really care if you don’t use any limitations at all… granted I lean towards preferring the former for narrative purposes but just be consistent with your own rules.

To my knowledge, shapeshifting is not really bound by ā€˜areas where Druid Magic is useless’. You’re not dependent on having a plant nearby to shift into a Bear.

A lot of current Druidic spells in game also revolve less around plants and the like, as Balance Druids for example have a very cosmic niche to them (much to my dislike). And like Druids in the game, RPing them can have you take on any role. You can set your character to have constraints and you can have your characters have nearly none.

If your Druid is more dependent on plants, areas with very little (blighted areas, or just dead areas thanks to whatever reason) can become an obstacle that is very hard to overcome. However, nature is often resilient and adaptive - if you have any characters with Herbalism, you’ll know that even those areas that should realistically have no life to them end up having plants who have adapted.

And as mentioned already, your character can prepare for these situations by carrying around seed pouches, where the potential of these again is up to you.

Finally, about forms - generally Druids of the Talons, Branch, Claw, etc. stick to one form. A common misconception is that Druids of the Wild are the ā€˜jack of all trades’ Druids, but in reality Druids of the Wild are simply called Druids. Some of these classifications are also kind of like how your character views themselves. Nerathion calls himself a Talon, as he only knows how to shift to a Stormcrow. But he’s also a strong enough healer and an offensive caster that you could call him a Branch or Moon. Yet he calls himself a Talon.

I will say though, regarding limitations, sometimes you can feel forced to break them just to have the best OOC solution for all parties, especially when it comes to healing. I’m sure everyone has stories of their novice healers somehow managing miracles because the other person expected their character to live through serious injuries far beyond what your character could handle. In my case, unrestricted RP-PvP ended up being easiest to explain that Nerathion simply got a lot better and that’s why he somehow kept alive multiple members through fights, as few others wanted to heal. Oops.

Druids not able to cast magic because there is no nature around is mostly a DnD trope I would guess.

Every druid in Azeroth is linked to the Dream and can call from it. It works even in the Shadowlands and Outland and Draenor etc… Even in the deepest Fel Fortress.

Druids are already seen as tree-huggers in AD, do not let yourself nerfed more because of it. Druids are badasses.
