I always used to use MRP because it was nice and simple. But I’ve been playing the game again recently and they’ve made it more like TRP: filled with pictures and links and personality sliders and colours and giant fonts and weird floating custom buffs from the game. This is all stuff I do not care about. I just want to read a small description of your character.
Unfotunately I can’t turn all this stuff off. My first thought was to switch to FlagRSP, but it hasnt been updated for 1000 years. Are there any more RP add-ons available?
XRP is the kind of lean and mean addon you’re looking for.
Honestly it’s sad. TRP is the Internet Explorer of RP addons: it implemented a ton of nonstandard features atop the common Mary Sue Protocol, forcing other addons to also implement them or die.
I myself would use XRP, but TRP has a feature that XRP lacks and I can’t live without: binding multiple characters to the same RP profile. I just don’t use all of TRP’s overdesigned bells and whistles.
TRP is the most widely used and best imho. You can ignore 90% of the stuff you don’t like, and are able to read other people’s profiles with ease. You can even disable custom colours. I don’t use the sliders, I just like that I can set a custom class. Couldn’t do that in MRP back in the day.
I don’t want to be that person but I would suggest just sticking to TRP. I understand it may seem overwhelming to have all those options you don’t care about, but you can just simply not use them and keep things simple. Just because stuff like personality sliders are there doesn’t mean you have to use them. In fact a lot of people just don’t use them (which I would also advise.) But if you ever in the future decide you do wish to expand your RP profile, you can do so with TRP without having to switch addons again. Give it a thought.
Otherwise, yes XRP is your only option if you absolutely insist on sticking with the most basic RP addon possible.
I started RPing in Cataclysm and since then I’ve not once thought about using my RP profile to describe my battle pets or writing a historical treatise about my family tree or adding a spell icon of a kul tiran in it. I’ve also not once thought about reading any of this in somebody else’s.
XRP is the real queen stuff this miserable neo-MRP user was looking for, thank you.
Aside from when someone’s at a glances takes up half my screen, I will never let them have the satisfaction of them knowing it irritates me twice as much when they’ve done it intentionally.
If your first glance is longer than a sentence you’ve failed at being a GLANCE. God forbid the people who make them so long there’s that little … under them
Honestly if you think TRP3 is overloaded, you probably didn’t use TRP2. I remember the dev going nuts and adding feature after feature after feature. Stuff like a quest maker, a bounty board and other stuff I don’t remember.
Then MoP was announced, they posted a weird rant about pandaren then quit the game. Then a different author made TRP3 which shed the piles of stuff people never used. And added commonly requested features. Like a word cap on the ‘Currently’, I remember TRP2 users filling it with their entire description so every time you moused over them the tooltip would flood your screen…
I can honestly say though that TRP3 is only as complicated as you want it to be. The sliders and colours and what not? Just don’t use them. Just fill in the name, titles and a description and you’re good to go.
XRP would also work fine but you will probably miss out, since TRP3 is so widely used. Does XRP even have the ability to read the ‘at a glance’ tabs? A lot of people put stuff in there these days (Sometimes too much but hey ho). If it does, then XRP isn’t really going to let you ‘escape’ the stuff people have jammed in if that’s what you’re trying to avoid.
Yeah, I was also very anti-TRP because I was a staunch MRP-er who had used TRP2 and saw how atrocious it was. It was so bad that it made people’s names break in other addons to become strings of busted numbers. After getting TRP3 in 2015ish, though, I haven’t ever felt a need to go back. It’s lightweight and relatively no-fuss, if that’s what you’re after. Using XRP to intentionally alienate yourself from the community will do exactly that, make you miss out on a lot of profiles.
Oh I recall TRP2 being pretty bad as well. I still vividly remember the feature where you could have stuff on your profile displayed in more than just one colour. I’ll never forget seeing people with actual rainbow coloured TRPs. It still hurts my eyes thinking about it.
