Greetings! I will try to be brief and cut to the chase. Lately I have been thinking on starting some rp in Outland that would take place ICly during TBC, or prior to it. Mostly because I find it an intriguing time period and place to rp in, and believe there are others of the same mind.
The proper time that I suggest isn’t made into stone, and can change depending on several factors.
Whilst my biggest interest is on the sin’dorei that followed Kael’thas, it would be very interesting to have other race like draenei, orcs, quel’dorei, humans and any other that would be in Outland at the time. I am open to suggestions and ideas on how to make this be enjoyed by a larger number of people, while remaining true to TBC times.
If there is interest, or aid in getting this idea off the ground please comment below =)
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Have a wonderful day / night!
I’m not sure if you find enough people to run a stable hub, but some campaign or focused RP spanning few weeks/months could be fun. I just started levelling through TBC and had similar feeling immediately, just entering Honor Hold locked in battle for years in extremely hostile land sounds like a setting promising a lot of fun for limited time.
I agree with this post. With our guild we did a short campaign set just after the Dark Portal opened some years ago. We had a mix of veteran Sons of Lothar and newly arrived Alliance characters and it was a great experience.
However, due to lack of lore progression or interaction with the wider world, I think it would be very difficult to create steady RP in it.
I levelled all the way from 1 to 70 in the TBC timeline with this character, from Quel’thalas to then Hellfire, Zang, Blade’s Edge Mountains and a bit of Netherstorm. Definitely recommend specially since it was my first time going at it on the Horde side.
In regards to making it a stable hub, I understand it would be difficult. At this moment I am thinking of introducing this character to the wider rp scene, and from there get a better feel to how feasible it would be. Perhaps then create a sort of campaign for it depending on the interest =)
Together with a couple of friends I did co-dm a campaign for demon hunters through the various patches of TBC until the siege of the Black Temple. Though since it was rather restricted on who could join (solely illidari) we had difficulty getting many to follow us. Stil it was fun while it lasted =D
As fun as these ideas are, and as much as I’d love to do some TBC era roleplay, this sort of thing struggles to catch on. You’ve got to remember just how long it took for Alliance RP to develop hubs that aren’t in Stormwind, and RP that happens in other time periods entirely is an even bigger ask.
I really hoped when Classic launched we’d get good and proper Classic RP, but it’s a big ask of a lot of people (especially with the lack of retail WoW transmog/comforts/convenience/etc).
I did Rp in Classic until late TBC, had lots of good memories there. It was a shame not more people stuck with it but I understand it is quite the ask. In the same vein I agree that it is quite the ask to move people to Outland for more than a few events.
I was very busy at the time and couldn’t commit to the RP servers; spent most of my time on Classic 2019 just doing the content. It’s a big shame though.
I think RP on WoW especially has the appeal of it being a very seamless world. Whilst in FF14 a lot of the RP happens in instances, in other MMOs it’s all organised via discord etc, in WoW you can just go to a hub and RP with someone. If you start doing RP in “different time periods” it kind of breaks that big strength of WoW RP.
There is a certain WoW server I probably cannot talk about or mention where this happens a lot more often because of it being heavily instanced.
I know of the server you mean, while it has it freedoms the heavily instanced part of it isn’t really to my liking. While I am not giving up on the idea I will take some time and see how things go.
I don’t mean to tread on your parade, but the idea may be good, but expect 5 people maximum - I think the vast majority of RPers prefer the present timeline. With that said there’s so much lore to Outland that crafting stories of your own is never a bad shout either.
I know its not what youre looking for, but I am sure there could be stories to RP out in Outland related to the next patch that would let you stay in the current timeline to scratch that TBC itch. Or if you are really dedicated, my guess is that anniversary realms are going to TBC sometime early next year like january or february.
Of course, the vast majority prefers the present timeline or timelines other than TBC. I don’t intend to siphon away players on mass and degrade de rp from other zones either.
For a start five interested players wouldn’t be that bad tbh. Things take their time to grow an develop, and for now I am fine taking a long winding road that might get there.
