[RP/Immersion] A Druids powers

Was wondering, Druids use teachings from Cenarius to use spirit to do magic right? What does that actually entail with spirit, does it have special rules or requirements to use. For context I know the Light can be used as long as one totally believe one’s cause is right (Scarlet Crusade and so on) and mages study the arcane which requires a lot of concentration for spells but can be used however. Shamans drawing from Elementals who support the user or are subjugated. I guess I’m also wondering could a druid be able not share the same values and views. Cheers!

I mean, Firelands druid sort of do that, they twist the nature of the magic turning it from life and nature into fire and obedience, but druids in most cases just have an affinity for life, the sanctity of the woods and the land they lived on for thousands of years, being able to coax life to grow in a certain way, its by no means an easy school of magic to master.

Druids more so have an affinity for balance, the cycle of life and death to promote harmony in nature. It’s just as important to cull a species that is threatening to disrupt an ecosystem as it is to nurture growth of another that would nourish it. What a druid would consider a healthy ecosystem to look like however would be up for debate between themselves (for instance, the Cenarion Circle was very much opposed to the creation of Darnassus).

In Warcraft media it’s often flanderized as “they make the trees grow” magic while it has a lot more nuance to it.

Not to mention stuff like Zandalari ‘druids’, aka Dinomancers, aka We Just Be Bettah Than You, Mon :smirk:

I would love to argue against this, but I was one of those dorky kids who were perpetually obsessed with dinosaurs, and to argue against that would be to argue against my own nature.

Sleep.

More seriously, the deep understanding of the natural world that most druids require seems to be acquired and supported by access to the Emerald Dream, which they visit through the process of dreaming.

At least for the most traditional Cenarion variety of druid, this form of “meditation” seems to be an important part of being a druid. Perhaps it is because they draw upon and are empowered by the energies of the Emerald Dream and that is the source of their magic, or maybe it is because the Emerald Dream is home to all sorts of powerful beings associated with druidism who are able to pass on druidic wisdom. It could be that both of those options are true, or that neither of them are.

But when playing a traditional Cenarion-style druid, I would say that maintaining one’s connection to the Emerald Dream through sleep or some other form of meditation or astral projection is extremely important. I’d say that this is less important for troll druids of both varieties, who seem to get their nature magic straight from a wild god’s blessings.

I bought into this for longer than I’d like to admit. Even having read the WotA trilogy a few years ago, asides from astral projection and some gnarly seed-magic, Malfurion the Druid didn’t strike me as… well, someone striking.

I’ve come to believe that druids are the single-handedly most powerful class since then. When you ponder their connection to life and death, to the very pulse and might of the world they inhabit, their potential seems all only limited by the world’s vitality itself. That is a frightening foe and a legendary ally all in one.

From my understanding, it’s similar to shamans where they basically ‘ask favours’ in order to use nature magic. For example, if they needed to heal an ally, they’d have to ask the forests to basically sacrifice its life magic to put it into the guy that’s injured. It’s not a case of by wiggling your fingers you can suddenly make tons of life magic.

But I remember reading something where a druid had seeds on him and then lobbed them at an enemy and they grew into massive thorns or something. I might be waffling and making things up but, if true, I don’t know exactly how that works but cool regardless.
