Russian servers unaccessible for non-Russians?

Yesterday in desperation over my closing RP server, I tried rolling a character on the Russian server Chromie, as this is the only low pop PvE server, but I could not.
I get a warning: You’re trying to play on a realm with a different language" I click OK, and … nothing happens.
How do I do this?
And will I have to learn Russian to play WoW?

I would be amazed if you could even RP on a Russian server without speaking Russian :man_shrugging:

Chromie is NOT a RP server - it’s low pop - which is what I want. RP is an extra, like the cherry on top.

Why not choose a French or German realm?
Russians use an entirely different alphabet then we do (cyrillic?) so it will be extremely hard/tedious to understand them (playin with google translate on the side?).
It used to be kind of enforced that you use realm language in all public channels, of course you might not have to now but talking English in public channels might be annoying to Russian people on these realms?

I can ensure you that a medium population won’t bite you. You seem set on playing on as desolate of a realm as possible (in an MMO?) for the experience but aside from a few realms (Golemagg, Gehennas and Firemaw?) most other realms by comparison are sparsely populated enough.

Edit: maybe there’s even latency issues between Russian realms and EU? I know there is between Oceanic, EU and NA…

Edit2: check populations here https://ironforge.pro/population/tbc/?locale=EU and compare to the list of realms disappearing. Maybe Patchwerk or Transcendance (in case they stay?) would be nice for horde if you can speak or understand German?
I am surprised to see Razorgore also stays (English and only 350 active horde).

Because they are not low pop. The French is even High.

I tried Nethergarde Keep (medium) and it was too populated for me to enjoy.
and I do hot want a PvP server either, PvE only.
I like other people around, but I do not like this situation: I come to a place after walking a long way. They say “Finally an adventurer to kill the monster that have threatened our poor village for so long”. And then I literally have to stand in line to kill said monster! No thanks, not a bit immersive.

I might try and see if any of the German PvE servers are Low-medium instead of NKs High-medium. At least my German is better than my Russian (and better than my Spanish or French too).

PS. I know about the Cyrillic language, and even know the letters and how to read and writeh them - I’m a language nerd  Only problem here is my lacking skills in Russian, but I suppose Polish would allow me to understand quite a bit. None of the abovementioned languages are my first language, English is my second.

u just need to switch language in game settings to be able to play

a ‘PvP’ realm with 350 horde and 13 alliance on ironforge.pro effectively means PvE.
There’s a very small chance that you will even meet any alliance out in the world and even if you do you may be at least 2v1, 3v1 or 4v1 if they decide to attack.

But PvE realm wise:
Lakeshire then is your only remaining option. It does have less horde then Nethergarde Keep (1264 instead of 1545).

You can try to keep fighting the truth here on these forums, but rather then ruin your experience by going to a Russian realm you can try to have people help you to Lakeshire or you can decide to quit as you said in another thread here but ignoring all logical solutions instead of complaining everywhere is not productive.

Edit: you are looking at Хроми realm? Ah with google translate I see that is Chromie

Sorry to have caused misunderstanding. Vanillataur is my Forum “troll” I main a Human paladin, and have done since day one  and yes Хроми is the only EU low pop PvE realm. I really really would hate to quit after 16 years, but if I do not find a new ‘home’ before August 9th or 10th, I might be forced to do this.
Playing should be fun, not just tolerable.

And I just looked. I AM able to transfer from HW to all EU PvE reams, Хроми included.

EDIT:

Fighting what truth exactly?

  • Blizz IS closing down all EU RP servers.
  • Blizz did NOT give enough PvE servers at launch leading to overcrowded PvE servers at all launch and other major happenings.
  • Хроми is the only low pop EU PvE server.

Where am I fighting the truth with these statements?

Though playing a russian server with russian interface, is that even fun?
Because as far as I understood you need to have russian language active to play on the russian server.

Playing on a Russian realm does not mean that there are any real political connections to what’s going on in the real world. If you could understand Russian you might get into contact with some very brainwashed and biased Russian views but most people come to games to unwind and not talk about RL issues. Second part is true, it’s kind of the point to have language communication of the server, although it’s maybe not enforced.

To come back on the post above, I felt that since OP makes a post or comments on other posts that there is too much emphasis on his/her own realm going away. We know by now, facing the truth means focusing on what you will do instead of lingering on that one point.

This is exactly what I am tryoing to find out, I want to try the Russian PvE server to seeif I could live there, as free transfer from HW also include transfer to Хроми
And No I’m not going to discuss politics or anything IRL if I can avoid it. As you say, I play to unwind, not to discuss, and that’s exactly why all this mess is bothering me so much. I do not play to get irritated or even angry, I play to have fun!

That’s what I would like to see BEFORE transferring, and the reason I wanted to roll a newbie on Хроми in the first place. I suspect I could mubble through the Quest descriptions from prior knowledge, my reasonable Polish and knowledge of the Cyrilic alphabet, but I’d like to be certain.

Some good arguments but I disagree with you anyway.

Now I levelled a Draenei to level 6 on Хроми / CHromie
If anyone’s interested say Hi to ванильДва (Vanillatwo)

Russian Realms are part of the EU Realms pack so to say, so no - also I had my normal latency.

Yes this did the trick! Thanks for your help.

No - it’s NOT fun. I feel line a child just into school sounding my way through quest descriptions, and the notifications like “That bag is full” or “You’re too far away!” are way too fast for me to read. This is bad, even very bad for immersion and for fun!
I can muddle through on my mixture of Polish, Cyrillic letters and prior knowlegde of quests, but fun! NO.

Can I say so do I?

What now?

Do you get nothing else better to do than to play on low populated Russain server? Yes, I used to play on that server but it’s almost dead if not completely. Also I made HUGE mistake back on SoM with leveling a warrior on russian server. You know how many ppl were online when I hit 60 there?

3 !!!.

First of all welcome to our realm!

Sadly you visit us not in a best time, we lost ⅔ of our population since February due to certain events and consequently suscription payment difficulties for many players. We might loose even more soon™ due to possible opening of free PvE>PvP transfer to Flamegor PvP, the only RU server that will certainly be surviving up to WotLK Classic.

You can play on Russian realm with English audio of cinematics, dialogs and error messages you mentioned, by keeping corresponding setting in Battle.net launcher WoW TBCC options menu. Only text language option is mandatory to be set to Russian to enter our realms.

Thank you,
Yes that free transfer off Low pop RP/PvE realms was a totally unnecessary move!
But actually the number of players fit me like hand in glove  I am not much for overcrowded servers.
Only my reading skills in Cyreillic are somewhat more holey than I hoped for :frowning: And this makes for no fun, sadly. I thought I was better at it. As said I rolled a Drenei, and I’m missing Exarch Menelaos’ bleak speeches and the spicey remarks of the herbalists. I have the audios in English  Thanks.

When the only low pop PvE server is Russian I just have to give it a try before giving up, don’t I?
