Hello,
Do you think this setup will be ok or I need better GPU to play at 144hz in Full HD?
Hello,
Do you think this setup will be ok or I need better GPU to play at 144hz in Full HD?
It’s more CPU than GPU bound, especially at high refresh rates!
As a comparison, I’ve got the same GPU and an i5 9600k (faster SC, slower / less MC) and I get smooth 70-80 FPS in Boralus and raids, I doubt it’s possible to consistently hit a very high framerate there.
However to answer you question, 144 Hz > 60 Hz, so go for it! the 1660 Ti is great for 1080p in general.
if you’re trying to play on a 1440p panel though, I’d recommend the RTX 2060 / 2070.
Can you tell me how hard your CPU is bottlenecking GPU?
For most games 3600x is too good for 1660 Ti, but WoW is different…
Worry less about Bottlenecks and more about what you want to achieve with your computer right now, especially since you can always upgrade parts later down the road.
Also heavy bottlenecks aren’t really a thing anymore with how heavily GPU’s caught up with CPU performance.
GPU wise it’s more important what resolution you play at, say at 1080p the 1660 Ti is perfect and will never be a performance problem (for the foreseeable future)
CPU becomes more and more important the higher your refresh rate is, say a ryzen 3 1200 is plenty enough for 1080p60, would struggle quite a bit with 1080p144 though.
WoW is a very CPU dependent game and the new Ryzen 3000 chips are definitely going to give you great performance in any game (WoW included).
So as long as your goal is to play at 1080p144, a 3600x with a 1660 Ti makes a great match and there won’t really be any bottlenecks.
Aside of the CPU/GPU - it may be hard to reach 144Hz cap on a network based multiplayer game. In cities and hubs you are unlikely to reach FPS close to that no matter hardware.
As for the CPU - 3600X is very good. The game isn’t that much CPU bound that it needs 10GHz on all cores The GPU - for high (mode 7) settings and high framerate you need way more. For 60-75FPS on 1080p-1440p it’s enough. I used bit weaker at 3440x1440 and it still did work but if you want to push the FPS above 100 constantly you would need overkill GPU or lower the settings and hope other players won’t nerf your FPS.
It will be fine 3000 series is a massive upgrade over first and second gen Ryzen
Ok, thank you
I am on the same boat as you, currently I have 8350 fx with gtx 1080 GPU and my screen is 1440p 165 Hrz, yesterday I ordered 3600x I can not wait for to receive it.
Went for Ryzen 3600x over Intel 9700k, as you can still upgrade the CPU next year even though 3600x is plenty good for gaming and general web browsing.
