Wow just isn’t wow anymore, it’s obvious that Shadowlands was built for minmaxers and tryhards. You can’t even do a normal or heroic dungeon without all the fun being “optimized” out of it.
People like to put all the blame on the developers and they are partly correct, the devs made Shadowlands this way. However you can’t ignore the fact that the community has destroyed this game so much to the point where it can’t even be considered a game anymore, it’s just a number treadmill where you have to run at top speed 100% of the time ‘or else’. I can’t even do regular dungeons in peace, you make a mistake or you don’t know a strat that people always assume that everyone knows and you get kicked, flamed and ridiculed. Everyone is always trying to imitate the best of the best and it is ruining this game.
This behaviour is only unique to WoW, I don’t encounter this behaviour in the other few mmos i play.
We don’t need classic WoW, we need classic community.
Anyways that’s my rant over, I thought I’d come back for 9.1 and give WoW a try again but honestly I’m just so tired of all the negativity in this community, it is downright depressing. I think it’s time to stop putting all the blame on the developers and look inward.
I don’t understand why this game needs to be ultra-competitive. That never was the spirit of old WoW. It is such a huge turnoff. Both PvE and PvP suffer from this mindset and game development.
quoted out of context, obviously this behaviour isn’t unique to WoW. Toxicity exists in a lot of games, WoW seems to be the only MMO that is rife with it.
So true and now it has seeped into TBCC the min maxers and meta teams for dungeons and raids both of the current versions of old games are very toxic and even more toxic than retail .
Just look at how many of those players come to retail forums and spam there toxic views .
It happens in every single mmo, even those called “casual friendly”. It has nothing to do with WoW.
And from my experience in mmo’s which don’t offer content for hardcore players and min-maxers it’s even worse. Cause those players are bored and because of that they’re destroying casual’s experience in the game.
ESO: it happens there regularly on normal dungs. They don’t even care about success of the group. All they care are their numbers. They prefer to wipe than do low dps for example. They also sign up as tanks in lfg and they play dps classes, what leads to many toxic situations.
FF14? Hah. They’ve got even their own subreddit (which is pretty popular) where they’re making fun of “overly positive” side of the community. Rushing dungs and min-maxing on dungs in ff14 is common practice too.
well. Consequence of ESPORTS mentality of blizzard.
It’s fine for a game to have competitive aspects in it.
But since blizzard basically abandoned everything else in the game, and is primarily ONLY focusing on mythic+ and raid and pvp gearing systems and their once every expansion borrowed power, there’s just nothing else to do but to be competitive.
I don’t necessarily say we wouldn’t need Classic. Those that weren’t around when it was current do get to experience the old game firsthand.
It’s more like the fact that 2021 players play a 2004/2007 game. The game was clearly tailored for an older playerbase, so seeing all those minmaxers and whiners doesn’t surprise me. (Luckily, I haven’t seen that many so far, be it Retail or Classic.)
However, the old version of the game did rekindle the spirit of old community on some servers. After all, it was built on human interaction, nay, the game was merely a… background for it.
You needed those people to even do some outdoors quests, as even some ‘regular’ mobs were tough, let alone elites. looks at Defias Pillagers and Hogger
So you reached out, grouped up, did a bit of discussion on how to overcome the challenge, did it, and profited. Maybe you even sticked around, and since travelling took forever, you were chatting on the way between the hubs and quest locations.
And then, since a few people didn’t like you needed outer help to tackle the content, they asked for something easier and quicker.
The problem was, it was provided, at the cost of the incentive of human interaction. I wonder how much other online games’ communities and IRL happenings have to do with it, but it’s likely a nasty lot. Anyhoo, this led to the topic of the thread.
The community is not to blame for the state of the following in WOW:
Borrowed power overdrive
Grindy currencies that keep increasing in number with each patch
A lack of actual content
A lack of engaging and fun activities to do
Bad storylines and messed up lore
Lack of alt friendliness
Bad game play decisions (think the eye of the jailer and no mounting in the maw)
Massive timegating
Now as for the behavior of players, people simply are impatient when it comes to anything that involves group content. Right now you have a situation where players simply want to get alts to level 60 so they can prepare for patch 9.1, they do not want to stop and teach people how to do dungeon and/or raid mechanics. Nor do they want to teach someone how to be a good healer and/or tank. They want to gear up and push through as fast as possible.
Remember that they were only given 2 weeks before 9.1 drops, this once again is not the community’s fault but Blizzards fault for not giving enough notice as to when 9.1 was going to come out.
As for negativity, it has always existed, just that there were more people wayyy back when in WOW, so chances are you probably encountered many nice onces, instead of what you are seeing now. As for the top dog mentality in WOW, once again blame Blizzard, they are the ones who are turning the game into World of Esportscraft and have forced the casuals out, so you are left with people who assume that everyone can push 15 level keys and can raid via mythic easily.
This happend becouse of increased acessability and covinience. It have nothing to do with players. You have no reason to teach players anything when its far more efficient to just kick that player and instanly get new one.
