I mean, fair enough, a murdering orc of his caliber deserves nothing but that… Or it’s just that the writers forgot… or felt like it would sound “cool” at that point
His son was risen ( soul twisted and damned ) therefor he should go to the realm all the undead go too, aka the one Sylvannas saw arthas in and is so afraid off.
While Saurfang himself didn’t have his soul twisted and damned, unless Sylvannas purposefully sent him there it wouldn’t happen.
Or does all life on Azeroth go there? afaik there is a heaven version of Wow ( Quest from Wotlk in icecrown where a bunch of naaru take him there ) and there is the normal shadowlands where spirits pass on peacefully there and you can interact with them via priests and I think shamans ( The orcs were in touch with their ancestors ).
I like to think that when we shattered Frostmourne, his soul was freed and found peace. I mean he did die again before Arthas did, so maybe his soul was sucked into Frostmourne after he died again.
And since he was buried in the Ancestral grounds in Nagrand, maybe the ancestors took him in?
Alot of people keep saying that the writers keep forgetting stuff, I think what’s actually happening is that the writing staff is replaced at the start of every new expansion by a team who have never heard of Warcraft before
I never really thought that all souls twisted by Arthas or the Scourge were doomed to eternal damnation. Surely most of them were, but the ones we know of made choices that led them to damnation, others lived lives that were not worthy of a blessed afterlife.
Sylvanas was wretched in life as well. Her undeath simply exacerbated those traits of her’s. Something tells me she was destined for the realm of tormnet long before she became a Banshee.
They’ve explained it in one of the interviews - basically, they pitch a story they feel like is cool and just ignore anything else, even if what they’re showing doesn’t make a damn sense - important thing for it is to look cool.
Like when you have Alliance waltz into blight infested lands utterly surprised that Sylvanus uses the blight, making her look like this badass ruthless Machiavellian leader of the Horde, the desperation of the helpless soldiers and Anduin, then OUT OF FRICKIN NOWHERE JAINA, a total badass with the totally awesome flying ship that shoots arcane blasts and frost nova that for some reason clears the blight.
Does that make sense? Hell no.
Does it look cool for the clueless normies? Hell yeah.
You never know, sylvanas used some kind of power (probably related to death) wich even the most powerful mages could not sense and were confused about, it might very well be something that makes the victim go to the realm of torment. Otherwise they probably will retcon it if there will be a shadowlands expansion, having the ghost of saurfang fight besides us to free his sons ghost
