Savage Blood - Best racial ever or trash?

Question in title.

I am struggling to find out what, in practical terms, the Mag’har racial Savage Blood actually does in PvP in a concrete way because everyone seems to have different ideas.

The description reads:
“Reduces the duration of Poisons, Diseases, and Curses by 10%.”

However people can’t seem to agree on what that means. Does it…

  1. Make enemy DoTs faster, thereby making them do more damage to you?
  2. Remove 10% off the total duration without changing tick speed, making enemy DoTs lose 1-2 ticks?
  3. Do one or both of the above while interacting poorly with DoTs that deal damage on expiration, thereby increasing enemy DPS?

Any explanation that people could provide would be appreciated. I am wondering whether to make a Mag’har priest just for the looks, but I do not want to actively make my character worse (‘not minmaxed’ is fine, just not worse) by picking that race.

Well…going off google’s description of what a “duration” means. -
duration

/djʊˈreɪʃ(ə)n/

noun

  1. the time during which something continues.

“bicycle hire for the duration of your holiday”

synonyms: full length, length of time, time, time span, time scale, period, term, span, spell, stretch, fullness, length, extent, continuation, continuance, perpetuation, prolongation

“the student’s fees will be paid for the duration of their course”

So we can use some common sense here and say that it just means the duration of the dot is reduced by 10% so if agony was on you for 20 seconds, you have that racial. You lose like what 2 seconds off agony from the word go?

edit: at the end of the day the passive racials aren’t that huge anyhow, definitley is a nice perk for PVP with how popular sin rogues and affli lock is again but i dont think losing 1 tick or 2 is going to be earth shaking atleast.

Yes, I appreciate that… my question is how that translates into practical mechanics.

Agony lasts 18 seconds. Looking at WoWhead’s game files, it ticks damage once every 2 seconds (giving a total of 9 hits across its unrefreshed duration).

Savage blood would reduce this duration by 1.8 seconds.

This means Agony lasts 16.2 seconds.

Now my question is, does it tick 9 times in 16.2 seconds, or 8 times in 16 with .2 basically ‘dead’.

Can’t practically test it myself, don’t play horde so don’t have access to maghar orc but I’m sure if you were to say put a dot on both a orc and maghar orc which was a curse, poison or disease the maghar orc would take less damage? as a way to look at it is the only way the dots will take more is through the means of a spell or player’s haste.

So given the duration being reduced overall damage would be less too.

Brilliant; thank you for your clarification!
