Hello everyone! I just tamed Savage in Pandaria, and it was really tough. I stalked and tracked him for several hours. I was sweating bullets while following those tracks because they’re hard to see, and the tiger is also invisible, so I had to use ‘Flare’ every 20 seconds. Anyway, after I tamed him, I found out there are plenty of white tigers in Pandaria that look exactly like Savage. My question is: what’s different about this rare spawn? I feel like I worked so hard for nothing when I could’ve just tamed one of those tigers and named it Savage. haha
What is this pet about again? Never heard of it.
It’s a rare spawn in Jade Forest and part of the group of tamable NPCs that need to be tracked. These NPCs are camouflaged but leave tracks on the ground to be followed, and only Hunters can see the tracks. To reveal the NPC, you need to use ‘Flare’ near the tracks and then apply ‘Hunter’s Mark’ once it’s visible.
doesnt sound too fun, does it?
Apparently, nothing.
But you’ve made a little bit of personal history. That could be worth it, maybe?
Woah! Cool pet!
I don’t think i’ve seen someone with this pet!
Yes, it looks cool. You can find the mob in Timeless Isle or track down Savage for several hours in Jade Forest, as I did
Only the fact that you self know, not many other will care eitherway what pet you have or not have I guess. Do what you self want I guess, Ive thought the same thing few times on hunter too.
If you dont self care where the pets are obtained then no it doesnt matter, if you do care then yes. I had to go tame rare hyena cause I wanted the name it had even though I could tamed any hyenas with same look, and then I never even end up using it but atleast it was content in the game I guess, just like this epic journey of yours to obtain savage
This seem like proper hunting so from that it would not been a waste for me. And gz, cool looking tiger
I guess you’re right I followed that damn thing all over the map and I finally got the timing right with the “Flare” to see it ! … I was thrilled when I saw the cat… I felt like I was chasing a ghost… HAHA
Like Nesingwary in Stranglethorn Vale

Gratz on getting it. The difference is “the thrill of the hunt”. You´re a hunter, things like this are what you were trained to do. This is teh difference between an actual RPG and the Loot-Driven MOBA with zero backstory or character connection that M+ represents. Raids are somewhere in the middle by being at least relevant to the overall story

doesnt sound too fun, does it?
As part of an RPG I completely disagree… It was one of those things that made you feel like you were, in this case, an actual hunter, stalking your “prey”. Just like things like class quests which have long been forgotten and /or never expereinced by many that helped you connect with your character.
You see, this was created back when people still played the game for fun, and not only ever for the epic loot so they could feel special for 3 months until the hamster wheel started to spin up again.
I personally would gladly take more of this type of content over constant generic M+ grinding for purple pixels and a worthless rating any day of any week. Hell, I’d even prefer to see more of it than to get a new raid.
Because you´ll remember the experience of doing it for years to come , wheras I couldn´t even tell you what dungeons were in the rotation last season, much less 4 seasons ago, I only know that I got 2,5k or more rating on at least one toon and that it wasn´t becasue I enjoyed running those dungeons in and of itself. But 18 years later I can still tell you exactly how the quest to get polymorph: pig went down
Things like this are the big part of the reason that many of us, despite having enough alts to be our own self-contained AotC or even CE guild (if we could effectively play them all simultaneously), still have one “main” that we will never fully disconnect from no matter how much our favorite spec gets nerfed or how un-meta we are in any given season…
Foe example in my case, WoW will always first and foremost be “The Adventures of Credulon”, a lowly little gnome that just wanted to build cool gadgets that hopefully wouldn`t explode in his own face, and over the course of his adventures eventually drove Kil’Jaeden and the Burning Legion back to the Twisting Nether, ended the reign of the Lich King, became an honorary member of the Blue Dragonflight, restored balance to Pandaria, and so on and so forth…
And it´s also one of the reasons that, no matter how cheesy or forseeable some events may seem, such as the recent Kirin Tor questline, they still evoke some level of emotional connection… those were my unsung bros of over a decade that we sent off to the stars, the people that aided me in my exploits of Wrath and Legion, just by being part of it all as members of the Kirin Tor. Without them, or the Aldor and Seers before them in TBC, not to mention Khadgar, we would all still be stuck in the epilogue of Warcraft 3. And that’s why for the first time ever, I’m not currently wearing the Champion of the Naaru title, but “Archmage”
Congrats on your tame!!!
I remember doing various things in the past to be able to take certain pets.
Always a fun adventure.

My question is: what’s different about this rare spawn?
Since WoD, nothing. But in the time of MoP the timeless isle variant iirc was not tameable at the very least not at the start
Could name it Savage for the flex ofcourse
Congrats!
I enjoyed tracking and taming all of these back in MoP. There’s one or two in every zone, and some looked more unusual than others, but I don’t think there was even an achievement, which I think there should have been. I liked that other classes couldn’t see them, so they didn’t get killed before the hunters got the tame.

Back in olden times Elite mobs were more powerful when tamed. They were tougher to tame but were worth it if you did. A friend got the white tiger from Stranglethorn Vale on his hunter and when I learnt that Elites were better I took my Hunter off to Bloodmyst Isle and tamed the Elite Bear from the north of the island. It was a great pet (I still have it now) although it no longer provides any advantage over any other bear.
The real hunt was the friends we’ve made along the way
This type of flavor specifically designed for hunters is great.
You went tracking and caught a rare and elusive beast.
That would be enough of a win for me.
Like going out of the way to an island of fighters to learn berserker stance.
It was different and interesting.

The real hunt was the friends we’ve made along the way
And the pets and friendship we made for life, though they removing pets for mm in next rework but still
