Scaling seems... off

Is it just me or is scaling for low levels really… off? I’m constantly getting one-shot by random mobs as a level 15-ish DK in mostly Legion content. I’m not sure if it has to do with the Timewalking event, but while mobs appear to be my level, often their first hits smack me for my full health. This has been consistent in my 10-15 levels thus far and has even happened outside legion zones where DK quests take you to (Arathi, let’s say).

You’ve probably just outleveled your gear.
That’s been my experience with the scaling system since coming back to WoW, you just level so fast and NPCs scale with you so you need gear upgrades every so often beyond what you get from quests to keep up.

Are you using Chromie time?

I’ve got a full set of heirloom gear and yea, I’m on Chromie time. It’s been happening in instances too. The first hit from a mob is way out of scale quite often.

I’ve leveled countless characters through the years, so I’m familiar with how gear works and generally leveling feels usually. This is not normal at all.

If the NPCs are the same level this isn’t normal and something probably broken on your character.

Is your gear in need of repair?
Have you been spending your talent points?
Have you selected a specialization?
Are your weapons appropriate for your specialization?
Do you have the right gear type equipped?

The scaling can be wonky in places. I remember leveling my void elf warlock in Wrath zones a few years ago and getting destroyed by a mob in Dragonblight. My voidwalker would be killed in one or two shots then I’d die immediately.
I just ignored that mob and moved on the next quest.

So I guess there are some mobs that don’t scale very well.

Sometimes there can be some stuff with wonky or just no scaling at all, which you should report as a bug if it happens. I experienced it once in Eversong where a mob’s moonfire just didn’t scale at all and on a low level character that killed them pretty fast.

Are you upgrading your heirlooms as you are leveling up ? They might be becoming less effective if you dont update them

Scaling has gotten worse each level/stats squish, I am seeing it myself with my alt dk, death strike heals for like 2-3% of my total hp pool.

Death strike is based on the % of damage taken a few seconds before no? Or id that get changed.

It might be worth doing a bug report (in game) for the odd mobs that aren’t scaled properly.

I came across this on Reddit, so I’m curious if you were using the mount?

Due to a major bug, using a Chauffeur now increases damage mobs deal to you by 1200%

Some enemies never got scaled down so abilities hit like they are for their max level, for example the eversong woods have an area where you can get debuffed to take additional spell damage and the dot just deletes your health if you don’t dispel it as a healer. Legion, specifically the area with the lighting dragons has this too. Best you can do is bug report and leave the area.

There’s a particular issue with the Commander Mograine in scarlet monestary at the moment.
When he does his Zoom Zig-Zagging he is litterally oneshotting people, also if you stand in the line of his path - Dead.
I haven’t experienced that since the rework of the Classic dungeons… you know where you really had to get tatical not to wipe on nearly all the mobs, for a good while.

That is definitely a thing!

The funniest part about that clip is that if the player could cast on that mount she’d have won. Yes, the mob kills her in 3 hits, but she kill it in 2. With instants. And she has range.

Really says something about the state of levelling. ;D

Of course I do not doubt what the OP says as well. Sometimes it does throw a hard mob at you, and when it does levelling up only sets you back further.

I think it was more to demonstrate the damage you take when using the bike rather than a demonstration of levelling.

Theres definitely some weird stuff going on. Been leveling a brewmaster after not doing any leveling in a while. And besides the usual issues you have as a low level tank, Im getting oneshot at least once or twice in dungeons.
And not the “i pulled too much and cant heal it” kind of oneshot - just a regular autoattack hitting me for more damage than I have health. The weird thing is that it feels random. I can tank the same mob 4 times without issues, and the 5th time I get instantly killed. Would really love to know whats the issue here.

Of course it was, I’m not disputing that. I just drew an additional conclusion from watching it - reading something into it it didn’t intend to show, but nevertheless does.

The heirloom mount is kinda useless after level 20 though as its speed doesn’t increase past 160%. Sure you won’t be dazed/dismounted but I’d rather have faster mount and there is mount equipment for that.
