Scammed by Blizzard – Epic Sha Pack and Beta Access

User Experience:

  1. Sees the Opt-In page.
  2. Clicks Opt In.
  3. Reads:
4.“Signing up for Alpha or Beta testing does not guarantee access to the Alpha or Beta. >>>>>> Some game purchases, however, may include guaranteed Beta access <<<<<<”*
  4. Goes back to the Opt-In page and RIGHT NEXT TO IT clicks Shop Upgrades.
  5. Buys the most expensive pack – the Epic Sha Pack.
  6. Doesn’t get Beta access…

It’s just the same type of scam that is mentioned somewhere in the 700 pages of client policies.
“Oh you haven’t read and deconstructed the whole book about Facebook Messenger?”

Hello?

Retracing the steps a bit…

When clicked, it only shows that you’ve opted in and nothing else of note changed.

That part is under a different button when you read the support article they have about common questions & answers:

Beta & Game Updates

Opt-in for a chance to beta test Mists of Pandaria Classic before it’s released. You’ll also receive news and the latest updates about the game.

Thanks for opting in! If selected, you’ll receive an email from us.

If you no longer wish to receive news and special offers from Blizzard Entertainment, you can opt out by editing your preferences or clicking the unsubscribe link in the Blizzard marketing emails.

Customer Support cannot grant Alpha or Beta access.

If you want to participate in the Alpha or Beta testing of our game, you can sign up on the official World of Warcraft website. The sign up is only available when the testing is open, or shortly before testing starts. Alpha or Beta testing dates are subject to change.

Signing up for Alpha or Beta testing does not guarantee access to the Alpha or Beta. Some game purchases, however, may include guaranteed Beta access. Access to Alpha or Beta can be revoked at any time for any reason, such as disciplinary actions.

If your Battle.net account is selected to participate in the testing or has a guaranteed access, the Alpha or Beta client will be available for install and log in the Battle.net app once the testing is open.

For up-to-date information on current or upcoming Alpha or Beta tests, see the World of Warcraft site.

So it “may” grant you access and for up to date information you’ll have to inspect the pages itself which none mentions that you’ll receive beta for buying.

What it does repeated is that MoP Classic edition is free and included in your subscription or gametime.

The shop upgrade, which after I read all the fine print and table there doesn’t contain any promise of beta.

User proceeds to buy the Epic Sha Pack, which doesn’t have an advertised beta.

Seems to be correct so far. This confusion may come from as in the past they sometimes include beta access but it is not always so.

Though you may have been confused from step 3, there appears to be no errors in the information. All of this is available to you from the get go whenever you’re on the page itself and I didn’t even open up any actual legalese pages.

“Some game purchases, however, may include guaranteed Beta access”
Can you tell me what role does this sentence play Right next to the Upgrade Packs ?
I’m not saying it’s a TOTAL scam. I’m saying it’s a disingenuine advertisement.

I got the same response like yours on discord from some other fella and I understand it’s fun to pretend being a lawyer {{Oh EKSHUALLY :point_up::nerd_face:}}
However, it stilll begs the questions why was it advertised the way it was if there was 0 malicious intent from the dev team.

Also, please do not tell me it was due to some other Upgrade with EA. I have received a response from the GM saying that “NO UPGRADE CONTAINS GUARANTEED ACCESS” in the literal manner.

So you have 3 independent sources telling you the same thing. I’m afraid you’re out of luck then, please take some time to read through the pages if you seek something specific like if a product promised you beta (it didn’t, anywhere the support article is generalised) for the next time.

If you have feedback about the article itself you can submit feedback on a special button there I believe.

I have asked a different question though. You’re arguing against the point I’m not standing by.
