[Scarlet RP] Seal of Dathrohan - Blood and Faith! 🕯

Seal of Dathrohan

Introduction

The Seal of Dathrohan as the title of the thread suggests is a Roleplaying guild based upon the Scarlet Crusade. Made up of Crimson Survivors from various different cohorts to form a brand new one. With the customs and doctrines of each cohort melded into one big melting pot to form the foundation of this new cohort. The goal of this brand new Cohort is the survival and restoration of the Scarlet Crusade and from there the reclamation and revival of Lordaeron as a human centric kingdom with an unbreakable connection to the crimson faith.

Themes and Concepts

For those interested in the sort of roleplay that we provide here are several themes and concepts which are followed heavily by the guild.

Crimson Faith

The Scarlet Crusade has its own form of worship to the Holy Light. Brought about due to the corruption that slowly seeped into the Crusade. Though they follow the three tenets fanatically, the tenets have been twisted in such a way that it encourages and enforces the extremist behaviour that the Crusade is infamous for. As in their hearts and minds those who do not serve the Crusade stand against the Crusade and the Light. Anything that is dark or evil in nature is abhorrent to the Crusade and is to be destroyed with extreme prejudice.

Blood of the Living

The red that adorns the panoply and banners of the Crusade is symbolic. For it is done so as to honour the blood shed by those who have fallen in the name of the Light and Lordaeron. It also symbolises the blood that still runs through the veins of the living. Life is sacred to the Scarlet Crusade, and when a Brother or Sister falls in combat it is the duty of every Crusader to burn their body. This is done so that it is not defiled by the foul magic of Necromancy that is still prevalent in Lordaeron.

The Flame of Humanity

Fire has become a symbol of the Crusade. Each member baring the Crimson Flame upon their breast as to denote membership to the Crusade. It is a symbol of purity as it is through fire that deceased Brothers and Sisters are sent to the Light. It is fire that purges the land of all corruption.

Corruption be gone!

With the deaths of Balnazzar and Mal’ganis the corruption within the Crusade has been uncovered. Some of the Cohort may know of the corruption and others may not. Some may know and even out right deny the knowledge. In any case the ideals of the Crusade are still held strong by all. The Cohort though is slowly being steered into a less than overly hostile one.

Lordaeron is ours by Right!

Lordaeron in the eyes of the Scarlet Crusade is their’s. They are the living descendants of the people of Lordaeron, members of the original Order of the SIlver Hand and volunteers sent from the other kingdoms. The land is sacred to them as the jewel of human accomplishment. Any force outside of the Crusade that claims lordship over any territory are denounced as invaders, pretenders or traitors. They will be removed or integrated in time.

Only the Pure and Faithful WIll Serve
The Scarlet Crusade is without a doubt corrupted to the core. Having been corrupted since Balnazzar and Mal’Ganis infiltrated the Crusade as the Grand Crusader and Grand Admiral. Having been whittled away slowly over the years down to a couple of cohorts there is very little trust for anyone outside of the Crusade. Even those High Elves and Dwarves who bear the Crimson Flame are treated little better than outsiders since they are thought to be an extinct breed of Crusader to those of the Cohort. As such only those humans who have passed the Cohort’s tests will be allowed to wear the Crimson.

Survival is Paramount

Due to what state the Cohort finds itself in they have learned from some of the mistakes of the past. They cannot make enemies with everyone at the same time as their beliefs would dictate. Survival has become paramount and has taken precedence when it comes to strategic thinking. The Cohort will not overtly attack those who aren’t a direct threat to the survival of the Crusade at least not without suitable preparation.

Roles within the Cohort

At the moment the Cohort is just made up of scattered survivors but is looking to reinforce and become a full strength cohort. To that end there are many roles to be filled and branches that need to grow. As such these are the roles that a Crusader will fall into when joining the guild.

The Military Wing

The Military Wing is the military strength of the Cohort. They are the armoured fist that brings steel to our enemies and wets the ground with their blood. From the plate clad Crusaders wading through the battlefields with blood and faith aiding them, to the skilful marksmen and trackers who pinpoint and put down our enemies from afar. This is the role for those who seek to be thrown into the thick of combat.

The Clergy

The Clergy is the heart of the Cohort. Those that spiritually guide the Crusaders off the battlefield aiding them with their connection to the ideals of the Crusade and the Light itself. On the battlefield the clergy are the healers aiding our wounded and blasting our righteous psalm and prayer to bolster our Crusaders and bring woe upon the enemy. They are often tasked with anointing new members of the Cohort making sure that the Light blesses the joining of the new initiate. As well as leading the Cohort in prayer and psalm.

The Inquisition

The Inquisition is a sub-branch of the Clergy. From the highly touted Inquisitors who share the responsibilities of the Clergy to the lowly torturer. The Inquisition roots out corruption from the Cohort and the Crusade. They are to question prisoners and lead the rites of initiation should the supplicant pass the rites to escort them to their anointment.

The Magi Circle

The powers of the arcane are mysterious and powerful. Thus it is necessary that the Cohort has battlemages to bring such weapons of destruction upon their foes. Any barriers that are magical in nature to the Crusade are to be understood and torn down by those of the Magi Circle. They are a most powerful tool in the arsenal of the Crusade not to be used lightly.

The Crimson Veil

The Crimson Veil are the eyes and ears of the Crusade. They are those that infiltrate the lands of our enemies gathering as much intelligence as they can. From this plans can be made to counter any threats that are poised against the Crusade. They can also be called upon to act as messengers and assassins should the rare need arise. Passing along secret messages to those who aid the Crusade from a dangerous position or removing a certain someone from the picture though it is a very rare case that such is needed.

How do I join?

It is a very simple process to join the guild. Simply look for us in-character and request to join. From there your character will be detained and put through the initiation rites of the cohort. They are; the rite of purity, the rite of fortitude and the rite of resolve. Each rite tests whether or not your character is eligible to be a Scarlet Crusader.

If the character you’re playing is a Scarlet Crusader and you play it convincingly the only rite that your character will participate in is the rite of purity. Once your character has completed all the rites you will then be anointed by a high ranking member of the Cohort or one of the clergy as a fully fledged member of the Scarlet Crusade and an initiate of the Cohort.

Do be warned, it is not a light decision to make; Joining the Scarlet Crusade is a hard thing to do and failing any of the rites will result, in most cases with the death of your character. It is highly recommended to get in contact and discuss with us oocly if you aren’t confident about passing the rites.

FAQ

Q - Why now?

A - To be honest the Scarlet Crusade has been in the same state lore wise since Mists of Pandaria. Apart from the new confirmations that we’re alive and the monastery is getting purged again. We’re scattered and leaderless as the upper echelon is all but dead. With the peace with the Horde and the victory over N’Zoth just being obtained it’s a perfect time for the Crimson Clad to roam about Lordaeron in an effort to rebuild, restore and reclaim. Also I may or may not have been super laz- I mean busy with stuff as this should have been out two months ago!

Q - What race/class combinations do you accept?

A - Human’s only, we accept the following classes Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warrior. We may accept Warlocks and Monks depending on how you play your character.

Q - What sort of Scarlet guild are you?

A - Currently a roaming band of survivors following several plot points. All of which aimed towards gathering more survivors of the Scarlet Crusade and restoring the Crusade to its former glory.

Q - Cohorts?

A - Basically a fan canon that is based in the ye olde times of TBC Scarlet guilds being based upon different chapters/cohorts of the Scarlet Crusade. We got legions so there might be cohorts!

Q - What race/class combinations do you accept?

A - Human’s only. We accept the following classes Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warrior. We may accept Warlocks and Monks depending on how you play your character.

Q - Uniform?

A - There is no set uniform but some uniformity is appreciated and looks good in screenshots.

Q - How hostile are you?

A - To the Horde and Scourge, we are extremely hostile. We will attack on sight if able to, no quarter to be given. To the Alliance we may look to avoid you or attack you if we feel that you could be a threat to our survival. For Neutral parties it will depend on whether or not you are human. We may interact briefly with some distrust or out right attack you if we feel there are more gains to be had than losses.

Q - What do you mean by ‘no quarter’?

A - Obviously we’ll leave your characters very roughed up with some excuse as to why we can’t finish you off for good. ( Unless you’re okay with your character dying!)

I would argue that Scarlet Monks have been incredibly prevalent throughout the Crusade’s depictions in various expansions, especially in Mists of Pandaria, where we see them being trained by Brother Karloff. I’d expect to see monks included as part of the very core of your recruitment pool!

Couldn’t agree with you more, it’s the reason why it depends on how you play the character since I’d rather you weren’t zipping about using chi like most monks. They’d need a different take on the class that’d be more in line with the monks in the Crusade.

I hope that doesn’t mean you’re expecting them to act like Catholic monks instead. From the adventure guide on Korloff (spelling it correctly this time):

Brother Korloff first learned of the monk’s deadly arts from pandaren ambassadors as they journeyed through Azeroth. When the crusader demonstrated this martial style to his superiors, they unanimously ordered Korloff to train an entire generation of initiates in the ways of the monk.

I’d say the use of chi and ‘zipping about’ isn’t far from the reality of Scarlet monks at all.

Tbh, adding monks (the pandaren type!) to the Scarlet Crusade was an incredibly lame thing to do on Blizzard’s part and I wouldn’t judge any Scarlet guild for wishing to exclude that element from their role-play.

More of a mix of Korloff and Catholic monk would be ideal at least for us. As it’s undeniable that the monks much to my chagrin were added to the Crusade during Mists. Despite the fact it’d go against a lot of the previous and current lore but I don’t own the rights to it. So it’s just the personal take for our guild.

If it were omitted from the lore (or several sources openly disagreed with one another) I’d certainly agree; Blizzard leaves large gaps that we as roleplayers need to fill in if we’re to take to our hobby in any level of detail. However, the existing lore is the glue that binds us to the same world as everybody else on the server, and I don’t agree that a guild can just pick and choose which parts it wants to change at will.

I won’t pretend that it isn’t done; I’m well aware that altering lore to player taste is a prevalent trend on Argent Dawn, but with Scarlet concepts in general put under the microscope to a greater extent by critics (usually at least :thinking::thinking:) I would have expected to see a little more care taken, that’s all.

It’s not necessarily picking and choosing which parts to change; it could instead be picking and choosing what parts to include. A Scarlet Crusade guild does not need to include all aspects of the Scarlet Crusade. A guild leader could easily say their character hadn’t been given command over any monk ‘regiments’ or whatever you would call it; or, assuming they did not answer to anyone, they could think the ‘alien art’ heretical, and forbid it amongst those serving under them.

It could, and if that were the case, I would agree with you completely. However in this case they have said quite clearly that they do accept monks, but only if they roleplay in a way that does not conform to the lore:

As much as I agree that picking and choosing lore isn’t ideal, this is something so minor that it really isn’t that important. There aren’t going to be a plethora of Scarlet Chi-Monk roleplayers who suddenly feel disenfranchised by this guild; sometimes it’s nice to keep up a guild aesthetic, even if it isn’t pin-point accurate to MoP lore. After all, should a Chi-style scarlet monk want to join, I doubt the GM would turn them down, it’s not like the Crusade is in any position to be picky.

Even before legion, if you take a quick run into stratholm you may see the undead scarlets have monks, using fist weapons among their ranks
Monks have been part of their unit lineup since vanilla, although they lacked chi back then.

I hope that’s the case! I wouldn’t want any monk roleplayers to feel like they had to conform to headcanon in order to earn a place in/enjoy roleplay in a guild.

Precisely, it is more in reference to the older style of monks who are most definitely part of the Crusade as well that can be found in the vanilla version of the dungeon. There are also the fanatics not at the level of Brother Karloff. These are the sort of monks we’d be looking for. We aren’t picking and choosing the lore as you state just working with what is available seeing what’d work with our Cohort. After all the Crusade is pretty much broken we’re very much able to build it in our own image should we have the resources to do so and choose to.

So ultimately more “Punchy kicky” monks than channelling green mist monks?

Fair.

I believe “The Crimson Inherent” is still around, how do you plan to interact with them since you both aim for that scarlet feel?

We turned our backs on them and branded them as pretenders and heretics. Mostly due to their moderate stances from our own perspective, as we are a rather radical bunch, at least part of the guild.

Dire times require dire measures!
