Schannel errors ID 36881 - Event Viewer

Since 23.05.2025 my Event Viewer showing Schannel errors ID 36881 related to Battle.net. Not sure is it WoW or App it self. Probably it’s the App.

The certificate received from the remote server has expired or is not yet valid. The TLS connection request failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.

SSPI Agent client process (PID: 13204).

Hey, i had this problem as well couple of days ago but fixed it. It’s a Battle.net issue u need to uninstall battle.net then go to C:\ProgramData. Delete all the Battle.net folders(Battle.net, battle.net_components and blizzard entertainment folders). Then to be safe go to C:\Users(ur username)\AppData. open Local delete battle.net folder then go back and open Roaming and delete battle.net folder. Then just download and install battle.net and it should be fixed

When did you reinstalled the app? Becouse I did that 5 days ago and it didn’t fix those errors.

okay thats weird  reinstalled it around 27-28 may last week. And after that my Schannel 36881 error went away. For me the error schannel 36881 error started at 25 may. Posted both the error and error details on grok ai. it said that the battle.net update agent is having issues when it tries to connect to the blizzard servers, so everytime the update agent was trying to connect to the server it failed because it thought the certificate wasnt valid when in fact that it was and is valid. Could be because of corrupt files and cache and installation. Reinstall worked for me but maybe u have a different problem than i had. :man_shrugging:

I did Windows reinstall 31 may. Same day installed Battle.net app again and both reinstalls did not fixed Schannel errors since then. Still got them every couple of hours. Mostly at night they occure. Your ID error is the same as mine so can’t be different.

And you have tried delete all the battle.net folders i mentioned? while bnet isnt running and fully closed?

There wasn’t any. Installed Battle.net app on clean Windows.

ahh okay. well then try again step by step. uninstall and delete all the folders i mentioned. make sure all folders are gone. check the windows update then run cmd as admin with sfc/scannow and restart if it finds and fixes something. Then install Battle.net again and maybe try install battle.net on another drive if u can. See if that helps

Probably I’ll give it a try but I doubt it helps. I’m preety sure it’s on Blizzard side and only them can fix it. Certificate is from their server. Also I asked on Reddit and other people got those errors as well.

yes, true. just trying to help with what fixed it for me

I know appreciate it.
