Screen goes black for a second or two, then comes back, repeatedly

Dear all,

I have a brand new computer (MSI Prestige PE130 8RB-067MYS) with Intel® Core(TMO i5-8400 CPU, 32 GB Ram, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
The monitor is a Samsung Space (SR75).

When I am playing Wow (Classic), the screen goes black repeatedly for a second or two, then goes back on. I don’t think the monitor itself is turned off, nor do I get a message on my screen.

Things I’ve tried so far:

  • Updating all drivers (videocard, monitor, etc).
  • Resetting the PC to manufacturing settings and doing a clean reinstall.
  • Checking if the CPU/videocard is overheating (it is not).
  • Experimenting with the (advanced) system settings in the game.
  • Checking ANY type of overlays, even though I’m not using discord or twitch.
  • Updating my power settings to max performance
  • Testing the performance of the pc/processor.

It is severely impacting my joy in playing, and I will cancel my account if I can’t solve this. I think I’ve tried basically anything I can find on the internet so far. Any ideas on what can cause/solve this?

Hello Apocalizz,

I’m sorry to read what happens with the screen while playing World of Warcraft Classic. Usually, this type of issue happens when there is a problem with the cable connecting the monitor to the video card, however, it should also happen in other games. Try checking if that cable is correctly plugged in.

Try the following steps to see if the situation improves:

1 Try running the game in fullscreen windowed and see if it works
2 Turn on vertical sync
3 Disabling the Windows Fullscreen Optimization can sort in these cases:

  • From the Desktop App select Options>Show in Explorer in the WoW tab
Open the folder and locate the Wow-64 file
Right-click on it and select Properties
    Select the Compatibility tab
    Select “Disable Fullscreen Optimization”
