Season 1, 4500 Valor limit

Why?!

What exactly am I going to use to upgrade my gear? Is WoW being written by different teams on different planets?

Valor gains are pathetically low.

So what’s the point of the weekly cap if there is a seasonal cap?

Whilst I agree the Cap is a little too low.

The reason why there is a Cap is to stop people upgrading all of their gear all at once. It’s to give a feeling of progression on a week to week basis, rather than just maxing out all of our gear in 48 hours.

For that reason the Cap is very good, as long as they remove the Cap at a later date, usually Mid-season.

P.S. 4500 isn’t the Seasonal limit. It’s the Cap for the amount of valor you can earn upto this week. It increases by 750 each week. 4500 will turn to 5250 next week. It probably would increase by 1000-1250 imo.

Season cap goes up every week with weekly cap. It’s just what you can currently obtain in the season.

You won’t see the seasonal cap if you’re capping every week
the seasonal cap is for new comers/alts etc
if you ding 70 today and start doing m+ your cap will be the seasonal cap which pretty much adds up to every week valor cap since the beginning of the season
it’s a catch up thing.

Valor cap is pathetically low. I’m capped on 2 characters that I have “just played” rather than making any effort to max valor.

That point did need making :smile_cat:

But the weekly limit is shash. Why only 3 ilvls to a 1h weapon per week? Is that honestly the best “bad luck protection” Blizz will toss our way?

Honestly, I wish they’d normalise the upgrade costs a bit (rings at 250 are absurdly cheap) and make it so you can reasonably put say 4x upgrades into a weapon or large armour piece per week. Just allow us 12 ilvls in our favourite item, regardless of what it is. It won’t break the game, but it will make us feel better about that time we help a friend with a low key and get that BiS item we’ve been trying for, with avoidance :joy_cat:

BUT… balance it so that reaching that cap actually needs us to play a bit A&B the C of D. We shouldn’t hit cap with less than 8 dungeons, many of us do that for the vault, it’s just part of normal gameplay. The cap should be pitched to prevent degenerate gaming, so why not say it stops at about 16 dungeons in a week?

Well the amount of valor they give each week is so scarce, I haven’t dared to spend any of it yet.

Once I have a grip of my Gear, got abits of max ilvl gear I might upgrade some of it to max it out. But I don’t want to upgrade an item, and then replace it with a drop later in the week.

But then I’m finding Chest drops pretty disappointing. My Paladin tank has done 10 keys, was gifted a ring from someone, and other than that, just keep getting items that I don’t need, like I’ve had 5 helms drop. Not a single upgrade from the end of dungeon chest to me that has been upgrade.

But in all honestly, at the moment, I’m just saving it for when the Catalyst opens and use it to upgrade items to unlock transmogs.

i’m afraid that won’t work
i have a 415 shoulder and it’s still using the normal tier skin.

Ah that’s interesting to know. Luckily the normal colour is the only colour I really care about.

You’re not the first person I’ve seen thinking like this, but… remember that gear is there to help you do content - especially if you pug, when the leaders of the groups you apply to can see your ilvl and absolutely will judge you on that.

If throwing 4500 valor into your gear adds some ilvls overall (and it will, especially if you pick the cheaper items) then it’ll bump your average (and stamina particularly) by more than you might think.

I wouldn’t upgrade random crappy pieces, but if you have something with optimal stats that’s maybe 390+, I’d consider pushing it as high as it can go. Catalyst items are another excellent choice - I only need one more piece and have a 402 helmet that I will chuck in there and hopefully push it up to 408 right away. But that’s only 2 upgrades and won’t need much more than 1 week’s income so I don’t feel too bad for having spent it so far :smile_cat:

I’ve not had an judgement from group leaders, and I don’t even have 4 piece yet.

Ofcourse, I could quite happily upgrade a Set Piece I have. But I don’t think I’d consider anything else. At least not until I’m regularly getting 405 gear from end of dungeon Chests.

No, it is another blatant attempt to slow down your progress.

The chance to receive any loot at an M+ is 40% per run. The chance to receive the 1 or 2 remaining pieces of gear you are missing is 5%.

You are not going to break the game or the bank if there was no valop cap. They are just trying to suppress you.

Another thing they are doing is to stop you upgrading by running a lot of low M+s. If you want high ilvl gear you got to run higher level M+.

I find it incredible that anyone would find a limit, “very good”. It’s like going to work and telling the employees, do not bother working more than 7 hours, you will only be paid for 7. This is communism, and we have all seen how these economies have turned out.

the 4500 is written as “Season Maximum”. Whatever that means. Season 1 will last until Spring, March/April I suppose?

Blatantly trying to draw out the subscriptions…

What does that even mean? I have run 1000 M+ and have been credited 0 valor. Am I going to suddenly receive my confiscated valors in the post, later? It just makes no sense.

“catch up” means the tools and systems in place to help new/returning players.
Confiscating their valors is not “catch up” it is “suppress”.

Yeah but at least give me the chance to upgrade a 2h weapon x week :disappointed:

Next week the valor cap goes up by 750. Like every single week. That’s what it means. If you level a new 70 today you have a total of 4500 valor to collect.

It is the current season limit. But it gets upgraded every week with 750. And maybe the limit gets removed somewhere later in the season since it has happened before. But that is just guessing.

confiscating who’s valor?
what are you talking about

i was clearly talking about the seasonal cap and why it exists next to the weekly cap to EXACTLY ‘help new/returning players’

i did not address the reasoning behind the existence of ‘caps’ in general anywhere in my post.

Isn’t that exactly what I have written?

It’s not necessarily a bad thing.

This is a game, not work.

Not denying that. But then again, I don’t mind taking my time to progress through the keys, rather than rushing and getting it finishing in a week.

Yes and watch it increase by another 750 next week and again the week after.

Eventually (usually mid season) they remove the cap.

It’s just not worth taking such a negative view point of this. Enjoy the process, not the reward.

Agreed they should increase the weekly limit to 1000-1250 a week. 750 is too low.

That you know of…

An extra 5 ilvls can be the difference between one random person and the next, if their M+ scores are similar.

As yet I’ve not seen people demanding 4 piece… but I also won’t pug as high as I’ll run with my guild anyway.

Honestly though, by that point you’ll have had a bunch of 415+ vault items. I do think you can hold onto valor too long and end up never spending it. Source; never spent any valor in Shadowlands S3 or 4 due to holding on too long and never having the “perfect” piece to upgrade :joy_cat:

Like money, valor should be spent to make your life easier. If spending it won’t do that then by all means keep it - but don’t hold onto it if it can make things nicer for you!
