Season 3 (patch 10.2) planning and gearing guide

Hey,

As the new 10.2 season is coming shortly, I thought it would be helpful to create a quick “planning” guide on how to gear up for 10.2

  1. You can have 2-set on November 14.

For S3 the catalyst will start with one charge already on day 1 of the season (not day 1 of the patch)

When you reach 1.6K you get the same tier set token we have this season (with the only difference that it doesn’t count to elite, but normal gladiator set appearance).

So this is your top priority: get your 2-set fast, and decide which 2 pieces you want. Prioritize a chest/head/legs armor piece with the free token (as it’s the most expensive) and then buy one more with the conquest from week 1 and convert it in the catalyst.

  1. Use your free 870 and 700 conquest crafted pieces smartly. You will get these 2 on day 1, like last season. Also, for the first week you’ll get 2 halves of the essence (and then one half every week as before). So you can craft 1 piece immediately. Consider which 4 pieces of your set you will be using during this season, and for the 5th use the crafted option, ideally with embelishment.

  2. Trophies of strife can be collected already on 7 November (before season starts). This means that if you save them up, on the 14th you can have 16 trophies (a weapon costs 14) and you can buy an almost-as-good-as-conquest weapon, only 3 item levels lower.

To recap, here are your available resources on day 1 of the season (14 November)
1350 conquest
16 trophies of strife (8 pre-collected from the first week of the patch)
2 conquest items for crafting (870 and 700 conquest ones)
1 catalyst charge
1 free tier set item from hitting 1.6K

So this is what you could get:
a 386-ilevel PVP weapon from 14 trophies (the conquest one is 389 ilvl)
2-set: one free piece for 1.6K and 1 piece for 700 conquest, turned to tier in the catalyst
1 ring with your best stats (525 conquest)
1 crafted piece of gear (with the 870 or 700 conq token) with the best embellishment for your class

What you would be left with:
125 conquest
2 trophies of strife
1 carfting item for next week

From then on, prioritize picking/buying big pieces from the vault/vendor to get your 4-set, no later than 3rd week of the season.

Thanks, how do you get the conquest crafted pieces?

There’s no strife in pre-season. Strife opens up with season.

There were last time so he might be right.

I’m 99% sure there are. It would be like season 2.

Replying to Florien (not sure how to reply to two people in the same thread) : When you win a PVP instance for the first time (skirmish, bg, doesn’t matter) you get the 2 tokens, worth 870 and 700 conquest respectively. You can use them to craft gear without spending conquest.

What I can add is that on PTR you can buy 1 Trophy of Strife for 3500 honor. I think that there will be some sweaty guy who will get full Bloody Token gear first week and upgrade it instead of farming honor. I hope they will just add it later season as a catchup mechanic not just from 7th of November.

Catch up mechanic only. If you miss a week, you can get all 8 trophies back for like 25k honor :joy: but you can’t go above the cap (8 for first week, 16 second etc)

Bonus:

  • If your characters are currently fully geared, buy all the conquest boxes you can RIGHT NOW and don’t open them until the season starts next week after the Wednesday reset. When the next season starts, every box you open from season 2 will give you a grey item that gives 200 gold to vendor

  • Pre-buy the basic cheap enchants for your characters. Blizzard might surprise us with some new secret DPS enchant for weapons (although I didn’t see such on the PTR, was only a healer one), but all the basic stuff such as movement speed on boots, cloak etc might go up in price, as well as sockets. Don’t overspend, just buy the more basic things, because some of them might jump rapidly in price.

  • Remember that when the next season hits, everybody will be going for quick 1600 ratings in 1 of the Rated PvP brackets, so don’t be surprised if you face really good famous players on low rating. When everyone’s rating is 0 again, you might get anybody at any rating. Creating forum complaint threads will be pointless.

  • Make sure to use up any Honor/Conquest tokens you currently have in your bag on any character as they will become unusable on the new season.

  • Remember that the season won’t end the moment the servers go down for the reset patch, and it will end a few hours before that. Don’t leave out final small rating push goals for midnight. I’m not sure about the exact time, but I do remember last season ended somewhere between 8 and 11 PM server time on the Tuesday before the reset.

You forgot to add the pleasant part of buying honor / blood token gear to replace your current conquest and crafted gear . Than putting it in the bank to wait for 10 + weeks (depending on the number of crafted items) before you can recraft it with the new conquest item lvl , because the material requires the new spark , which comes in 1 half every week .

The above 2 free conquest pieces can not be used , because you get only 1 spark . So you will have to wait 2 more weeks for the next spark .
