Hello hunters! I’m really interested in playing Hunter this expansion but one of the major things holding me back is the really narrow weapon pool. Basically, it’s either bow, gun or polearm.
HOWEVER
I just checked the official WoW website and under weapons, here is what is listed for hunters:
Hello?! SWORDS? Can you please provide more info if this is accurate or if they just posted nonsense on their page? Or is one of those situations where it’s like " yeah, if you get a sword from a leveling quest you COULD use it while you work towards getting your next bow" ?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide some context here. If you tell me that I can play Survival with a sword, I’ll start thinking of pet names.
You can play Survival with a sword (2H), in fact until recently I had my weapon mogged as a sword, but I switched back to the spear look because it fits better.
I think the BiS is not a sword, but nonetheless whatever weapon it is you can mog it into a 2H sword nonetheless.
Edit: Also, you can equip 1H weapons, but they aren’t any good to use. Actually, Hunters can equip every kind of weapon except 1H and 2H maces and wands afaik, all others are fair game. People have been asking for the option to play SV with either a 2H weapon as is currently, or dual wielding 1H weapons like Rexxar. Taking into consideration that hunters can already equip one handers, and that in the lore there are hunters who do so, it’s in the fantasy. I guess the only issue would be balancing it, but that’s another issue and I’m digressing a lot already.

Most, if not all, weapon types are what we’re able to wield and in some cases like the 1H options a remainder from when we had melee weapons for a few abilities+stats.
That said you can mog your Bow/Xbow/Gun into one of the other mentioned ranged options and your Polearm/Staff into any of the 2H melee options we can wield (so not maces p much).
I myself mog a sword more often than not when playing Survival.
The only issue with sword only being an option as a mog is that I barely have any 2H sword appearances unlocked. I might have a couple of them from when I leveled a warrior for a bit, and their artifact weapon :D. But I will definitely continue looking into hunters and experiment with some appearances.
