Hi,
I’m trying to set up 2 factor authentication on my second account.
This doesn’t seem to work because the authenticator mobile app requires me to set my mobile number, which I can’t because it’s already linked to my first account and Blizzard won’t allow a phone number to be linked to 2 accounts.
I’m posting here because I tried raising a ticket and it says “You can’t submit this ticket. An error has occurred. This may be a temporary error, so please try again later.” sigh
I don’t understand why they won’t allow a phone number to be linked to multiple accounts.
Is there any way around this?
Only Authenticators can be linked to more than account, phone numbers though are limited to one account. You should be able to set the Authenticator up without a phone number as well by simply adding it through Account Management.
There’s no real explanation other than that is just how the system works, especially because some games require a phone number to play in some cases.
That’s what I’m saying.
Phone numbers can only be linked to 1 account (which is stupid) but what’s even more stupid is that you can’t set up an authenticator without a phone number.
I removed all 2FA from all accounts.
I did a reset of the authenticator app.
I logged in with my second account.
It’s asking me to complete the setup by entering my phone number.
When I enter my phone number, it says “Phone number is already in use” and won’t let me continue.

Hey there Valariya
Thanks for the clarification. I’ve gone through the good and bad versions of this process so understand the frustration surrounding it.
There’s a fair bit going on in the background that can require you to have a phone number before the Authenticator can be added. It’s doesn’t happen to everyone and it’s something that the Battle.net Security team have been looking into. I’ve had both happen to me while adding my Authenticator to 3 Battle.net accounts.
A workaround in your situation would be to remove your phone number from your main account and add it to your second account. At this point add the Authenticator to the second account. Remove the number again and put it back on your main Battle.net account.
It’s far from ideal and it’s on the Battle.net Security Team’s radar but honestly is probably low priority since it’s not a bug but technically an additional security feature.
That actually worked.
Also, when entering the Serial, we need to put it in WITH the letters at the start (in my case EU) but put the numbers in WITHOUT the dashes “-”, even though the serial in the app has the dashes.
Thanks for the help.
Great that it worked. Just to expand a little bit on the entry, the first 4 digits are the year and mount the Authenticator was created. Handy if you keep them written down somewhere for reference.
