Selecting your next main (RP Characters)

I have gone for same faction but something totally different. A magistrix from the Spire to a scavenger with no home or family and it has made a nice change.

It might be fun to try a character who is soft spoken and forgiving most of the time, but perhaps has a passion or a pet hatred they get really vocal about.

Eg a Zandalari who really really loves their loa and whenever it’s mentioned has to remind everyone who great it is.

Or a Forsaken that is still crazy loyal to Sylvanas and just wants to stab anyone who questions that.

Or a Pandaran torn between wanting peace but knowing war is inevitable.

Just some random thoughts there!

If you’re going Horde (or even if you stay alliance) I’d suggest making a character fast, name / race / one key trait. And then taking a look at the PCU guilds and joining one.

I suggest this because I have loads of fun in said community, we cover almost all races, and if you find your first character isn’t working for you it’s easy to try a new idea and switch guilds within.

If it wasn’t for PCU I’d have never tried Draenei RP. I joined as a belf, switched to zandalari, and now gone blueside!

I’ve had a heavy rp burnout too last year, not only due to getting tired of a character, but also because seeing the same all over again. Paladins, Knights, Noble XXX of House XXX.

What helped was making a character that is a complete 180 of what I used to see all the time, which automaticly made me look for something new instead of going back to old habits, since my character wouldnt want to be anywhere near the characters I mentioned. A brainwashed cultist wouldn’t want to peacefully speak to a Paladin, or a Noble. It brought fresh air, and made me seek out people who are looking for something new aswell. I met many new people, not just the alts of friends or people you roleplayed with before like it usually is the case in Duskwood or SW.

TL;DR: Try doing something entirely new and different so you dont go back into old patterns and habits. Experiment! AD is in dire need of something new anyways.

In my case I’ve been shifting my mains between races, classes and factions. But if my main character happens to die/be in a prolonged scenario where I couldn’t RP him - I will create the character of the same race and class, but with a different attitude, age, background etc.

However it is important to me that this new character would know some other people (be that in a guild or just other people I RP with) through his background - that makes it easier for me to actually get into the character.

I’m going to try to start a Goat this weekend. It will be my first ever ally alt starting from lv1, and just thinking about it makes me hella exited

I recommend seeking out the Order of Oronaar guild for some quality draenei focused role-play.

Wil try to give it a go thanks

Choosing a new main tends to happen by accident and opportunities, in my case. I generally have a bunch of various characters created but not/little played; when I grow tired of my current main I play one or several a bit until something happens (a guild invitation, an encounter, etc.) that will leads to some character development and then tada, I have a new main.
(Somehow, it’s never, never the character I had planned to main that become the main; not on WoW, not on Guild Wars 2, not on Wildstar…)

I had quite a heavy RP burnout last year too, which unfortunately lasted for a while. I recently made a human priest. I have never once, in all my years playing WoW, made a human before, let alone a priest. I watched some videos about lore when it came to the Light, and I decided to give it a shot. It was a Complete 180 for me, but I honestly really enjoy the character! It was refreshing and new for me.
Most of my characters have also been on the darker side of both the law and morality in general, and RP’ing a character that is lawful good has been a lot of fun.
