Serpentstalker’s Trickery applies Serpent Sting when you use Aimed Shot. Using Freezing Trap on an enemy does not remove the Serpent Sting dot. So basically you cannot use Freezing Traps on enemies that you’ve used Aimed Shot on. Why would anyone want to pick this talent?
Normally freezing tap is used in advance of a pull to isolate a particular mob so you don’t pull it, or similar, or as an interrupt potentially. But is always broken by damage, that’s part of its limitation…you don’t just get to freeze something for a minute and attack it like a target dummy, that would be ridiculous. And any damage will break it.
To solve this, two options are available:
scatter shot, this has been the set up for a freezing trap for ages. Especially since it removes dots, an effect that was added just because it was the set up for a trap…
second, pvp only: the talent that makes freezing trap not break but reduce duration. This still needs you to set up freezing trap though, people don’t just walk into it in pvp…
One last remark: in a pull in a dungeon, you can even use your freezing trap as an extra interrupt of sorts. Yes it will break in a second, but unless the mob is immune, it will stop them in their cast or special attack.
This is not common usage in high aoe pulls, but for leveling dungeons etc, it can help.
You’re right. But remember scatter has not been available to every spec for quite a while.
Personally when I logged in and saw I could talent into it I did a little happy dance.
My point is not everyone is going to be aware of our old set up tricks like scatter and ye old double trap
