Server latency?

I know this might be a non issue for 99% of the player base but i was wondering if people that play on EU but far from the servers can ever expect better latency? Im not a tech guy but i do know you guys have servers in Australia and since im in Japan wouldnt there be a way to bounce my connection there but still connect to EU realms that i started playing on back in TBC?
I get around 200-300 latency and even though it isnt game breaking i was just wondering if i can ever hope for an improvement or this is a accept as it is thing and move on deal.

As far as I’m aware the only way to improve latency, and this is from my own experience, is to get a faster upload internet connection.

I got 25-30ms on a 1 meg upload and now I have 40 meg upload I get 10-12ms which is the same as I got at 30 meg upload. This is to the EU, where I am located.

Aren’t the Aussie realms based in the US?

Edit: My US ping is 97ms, I just tested it.

Dont get me wrong the game doesnt feel laggy at all since its not a big deal for casual play but if i ever wanted to do something at high end i dont think that will be possible.
Was just wondering what are the technical limitations of just not being able to connect to a closer server distributor.

It’s obvious I know but distance = higher latency. The only real way to get a lower latency is to get nearer, do you know what your upload speed is or if the internet connection is shared, which can also increase latency.

Unfortunately blizzard do not offer an account region transfer option.

I think i did Speedtest and it was like 300-400 up and down.
Yeah it is unfortunate that they dont provide transfers I would even pay double, i have a us account that I bought under the same bnet to try and get into the us but after the grinds i went in MoP and legion for all class mounts/order halls and certain mounts i just dont have it in me to do it all again.
Weirdly enough the hearthsteed came with the US account.
I would love for them to at least make achievements and acquired transmogs/mounts to be really bnet wide.

Well sooner or later world latency will go down :stuck_out_tongue:

Started playing with 600-1k ms as the regular in vanilla.

Now I play on 100-150 ms

Were expecting a network upgrade in summer/early 2020 that is 2-3 times a fast as the current so it’s probably gonna finally be under 100 ms for us!

All you can do for now is wait patiently or pay absurd amount of money for insane connections.

Also

I know a couple of rank 1 players in pvp and top end raiders with 200+ latency back in the day, you can do it!

Thank you for the encouragement ! And im glad to hear about this server update we are getting, any sources?

While playing from India I am getting 250-350 ms in EU server. Funny thing is that on Asian server my ping is more and people don’t speak in English.

And don’t hope for improvement.

Unless there will be a sudden spike of subscribers in your region that will stay stable for a while and makes it worth investing in a server, I don’t see much changing anytime soon for you, sadly.

Didn’t mean it as a server update, rather ISPs in the region upgrading their services.

I’m in North America playing on EU realms, about 3000 miles, and get 120ms. Seems ok considering. Don’t notice lag in game, delays more noticable in vids. Assume not just upload/download speed and distance is issue, but all the different quality connections that happen in between your PC and the realm.
