Server population
Hello everyone,im a noob, so sorry if this is a stupid question 
Which website should I trust when it comes to server population? I want to make a new character on Thekal, but I have 2 different information. On ironforge - 14032 (8295 A / 5737 H). On warcrafttavern - 8762 (4369 A / 4393 H). Any info on choosing a server would be appreciated too. I want to play on a PVP server, with balanced Alliance/Horde population.

None of them provides real information, it’s based on warcraftlogs and any other third-party logging tools. Only way possible would be just to whisper around in the realm random 80’s and combine their opinion, some might troll you but others will actually help you out.

The question is not stupid. It is always a good idea to look at more than one source, which you have already worked on. 
3rd party data is always partial, but right now Thekal probably is your number one pick, if you truly look for balance. Jin’do is also relatively balanced according to some sources, but a bit smaller in size on both sides.
Sometimes I wonder, why Blizzard refuses to give us relevant data, so we can decide where we want to play. Clowns.
Pick one of the bigger servers ( do not look at balance, wpvp is lie ) otherwise you might be gated behind payed transfer after few months.
Thekal is dead
Not really, you cant do any activity at any time. Just maybe raids would be harder to find late in the night.
The problem is that it is still locked (i think) so there are no new players coming and lvling in the old continents is very lonely.
You could also check on

whether they have recent data on how many players are online concurrently. This is very relevant for the realm feeling balanced. I think, your only good options are Thekal and Jin’do.
