Setting random names

Blizzard.
Could you bring back the random character names tab? Sometimes I have memory lapses and can’t think of a name, and that tab would help. At least not all my characters will have the names of One Piece characters

Thank youuu :folded_hands:t2:

You might actually get better options by Googling a random name generator - I know you want it embedded into the game but maybe there’s a reason why they don’t have it anymore (effort adding random names to the database / was very rarely used / some other reason).

I think yhe main issue is that so many names are taken because we need to have lots of alts as profession slaves. I would really like it if all my characters could share the same name. I understand that for RP reasons people may want to chose separate names but a feature to have your characters share a name with an already made character would open up lots of available names. Obviously we would need a mailbox that was for the whole account too, in order to support this.

Imagine me going around all the villages and seeing what the NPCs are called and writing their names down in a notebook. I won’t copy them 100%, but I’ll use the anagram on their names. That tab was really handy.

I have done similar in the past except I use the online site that have all the NPCs listed

Which? :thinking:1

Afaik it works fine on US servers

The wikis tend to list the npcs in zones so for example if you scroll down on this page you’ll see all the Silvermoon npcs

When I went through chemotherapy last year, My chemo was Oxaliplatin and my first thought was. Oh cool, that’ll be a great name for my High Mountain Tauren Death Knight. #TrueStory

Edit: went on holiday to Wales to recover after Chemotherapy and rest in a caravan for a week. We went to “Aberaeron” I looked into it it meant “mouth of the Aeron”. The mouth being the river Aeron and Aeron meaning the ancient diety of battle. So with water and battle i took it to be my Restro Shammy.

Hope you’re doing good man.

Other than that, they should really attach the Random name generator, the US version has it, I see no reason why EU shouldn’t.

Fantasynamegenerator site has wow names for all races and its easy to roll few pages of examples to get the general idea

The issue for the EU region was there is too high a chance of it generating something offensive in one of the twenty four official languages.

I copied an NPC once for one of my Taurens.

No sooner did I start playing, my friends from the Nordic countries, whispered me in fits of laughter. That character name didn’t last long.

You just proved it’s a non issue, because they “generate” offensive names by themselves.

Besides I’m pretty sure an AI can generate a black list for no-no words in all of the European languages.

Quite the opposite but I feel you don’t want to see the point :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Whether you accept it or not that is the reason we don’t have it.

Would be pretty poor if a player was reported for an offensive name and got actioned when they used the generator to do it.

I personally don’t care either way. I don’t feel it’s needed but I equally am not affected if it was brought back.

Yes, I don’t see the point of taking out a good feature of the game, because if the bad words are concern (yet they use them themselves). Literally takes 1 minute in any AI to generate a list of "blacklisted” words in every EU language. So yes. I take your reasoning as non-issue.

Yet people get offensive names through and we have to report them. So it’s not really an AI thing. Not that I’m a fan of AI personally.

Defeating your point that a name generator would be bad, when people do it themselves already.

No it highlights the issues. At present it’s only players actively choosing unsuitable names. Not a system generating it for them. Someone who actively chooses a bad name that is offensive deserves the action.

Someone who uses a random name generator does not.

This will continue to go in circles so I’ll leave it be. I’ve explained why. There is nothing more to it.

I wish you the best of luck trying to bring it back.

Agree to disagree, GL HF.

The random name generator has never been available as a feature for EU realms, because some of the random names were questionable in some languages spoken there. It is however available in other regions.
