Yesterday I came across the sewer beast in SW on an alt I was levelling. I have not seen this rare for years, as a level 10 I clicked on him, it was also level 10 with exclamation mark so I had a go. He killed me! When I got back others were fighting him but I got a hit. Prize? a pointy tooth. Ha

Well look at it this way, he gave you one of his pointy teeth! He could have been really ungrateful and given you a nasty disease.

Fun fact: Sewer Beast used to aggro the Stormwind Guards, making it a rare sight indeed to find it still alive. Poor Sewer Beast. At least he gets a change to gobble up some low-level players from time to time now!

It seems to be some unwritten rule that you only see the rare when you are too low level to fight it.
I too have been killed by that beast on a low level char. 
Yeah, that’s life. We hope for a lot but all we get is a pointy tooth.
Guess the tooth at least makes a decent necklace.

I swear I only truly ever see it when I’m leveling a new alt and then it kills me.
