can someone tell me is mage better then shadow priest in sl?
better in what? both mage and sp look extremely good right now

Take your pick. Do you like healing on the side, or do you want to be tied down to a single role (DPS).
One thing I will ask is - Do you love all 3 DPS specs for Mage, because you’ll need to be prepared to swap between all 3 depending on your gear, and Blizzard nerfing the outlier mage spec.
As Vorramir said though, both are looking very good in Shadowlands.
if we’re talking from a DPS Perspective. Mage obviously.
Priest is tied to one singular DPS Specc and Doesnt really have alot of unique Utility. which means Shadow is simply not reliable, it gets Nerfed and ur going to have to be a healer.
Mage is gonna offer u simply more Options. and Much less Risk, with more unique utility while doing the same sorta DPS.
from sheer capability at fulfilling a DPS Role a Pure DPS will 99% of the time outright win because of this.
If ur looking for something down the Middle. maybe look at Warlock, Shadow and Affliction are quite simular in many ways and it offers Destro which feels more like a Mage and Demo which well isnt considered xD
only reason Shadows being dogpiled atm is likely because its one of the most reworked SPeccs and its considered overpowered currently 
but it wont launch in this state or atleast not last long. Shadow (i think) is now one of the Most played Speccs now xD but if ur unwilling to become a Healer i’d recommend Mage.
it all ends in na huge nerf like always.
