Auspicious Spirits damage reduced to 70% (was 100%).
This makes so little sense to me on so many fronts.
#1 Shadow Priest was barely worth considering for Mythic Progress in The Crucible of Storms already, as spriest is in the low to mid range on boss damage on Uu’nat. The fact that spriest performed so well on The Restless Cabal shouldn’t trigger a game-wide nerf, making spriest barely viable for any other situations than that fight, not to mention the last boss of the raid, which is the only one that matters.
#2 Shadow Priest was barely worth considering for Mythic+. Ele Shaman/Boomkin/Melee have so much more to offer. Treants, Earth Elemental, stuns, knocks, better interrupts. What gave spriest just a slight chance to compete in m+ was their slight upper hand on the damage part. Now spriest will bring less utility and less damage than all the other alternatives.
#3 The nerf comes with no buff to other parts of our damage. The intention behind the nerf is to reduce spriests multidotting capabilities, but it does also reduce the highest performing single target rotation by 4%!!! If the true intent is to only reduce the multidotting potential of spriest, Blizzard should’ve corrected for the reduction in single target damage that it implied.
Along the lines of Dark Void now applies Vampiric Touch and Shadow word: Pain to all nearby targets, and the dots lasts as long as you are in combat. Damage in PvP is increased by 250%. Dark void cooldown reduced to 10 sec (down from 30).
alright stop crying already it was obvious and on every ranking site spriest is #1 with a far distance to the next class, 30% of the previous 100% is nothing you will still be dealing a lot of damage.
Though I don’t disagree with the nerf I wanna clarify a few things.
1: The damage buff from the first boss appears to serve almost zero mechanical purpose, and only skews logs even further towards the extremes.
2: These fights are both ridiculously cheesable, and have been cheesed to the absolute extreme. One korean shadow priest paid a whole raid to stack a haste buff on him, at the expense of their own dps, just to get the rank 1 parses.
3: Most of this damage is pure pad / not relevant to completing the encounter.
Shadow was “too good” at what it does in raids, I’m not going to deny that, as much as I disagree that it was a pressing issue, but posting logs for these fights really doesn’t tell the whole picture, and the data is ridiculously skewed.
P.S: Ele didn’t get touched, despite being the number one spec for mythic uunat relevant damage by a country mile.
I think the point he wants people to take away is this nerf hits shadow in aspects of the game it was not performing noticeably well in, and looks to be a snap reaction to poorly presented data about heroic encounters. As a Mythic raider, he’s also probably well aware of how these fights actually play out, what damage is relevant, what isn’t, what contributes to it, and knows there are greater offenders going under the radar because they weren’t able to pad as hard as shadow could.
Blizzard still don’t understand that the big numbers in the rates are not because the class is so strong but mostly because the good players manage to control their damage on so many targets. From the the spriest single target damage so so weak if not even the worst in the game and you are right that decreasing the multiple target damage affects the single target as well. You can’t only take from one class, at some point you have to give them something, if not damage then utility. Very soon I think thanks to BLIZZARD there will be noone left to play spriest because it is so so much harder to get in descent group, raid and guild because you are a useless class. I love the spriest and it brakes my heart to watch it in the bottom of every M+ dungeon. I think that soon it will be better if BLIZZARD just delete this class and lets all place the TOP 3-4 classes.
I’m personally just worried about the single target damage tbh. I mean it’s never been really good to begin with and currently priests just perform very well in fights with multiple adds(or at least two targets), given that we only really have two valid configurations; Dark void + Mind sear or Auspicious Spirits.
Another things that’s kinda funny are the speed of this hotfix. When real offenders have been going whole season throught in their own specialist areas for example prot warrior and outlaw rogues in mythic+ or the rediculus elemental damage on targets with add swapping(like Uu’nat)
Well, how about the nerf it brings to shadowpriest in pvp aswell? I was looking forward to pve items getting nerfed since it almost absorbs all my dots, but atop of that we got nerfed so now i gotta keep struggeling with the same problem.
Rogues / mages / locks / whatever can spend the better part of a year broken. A shadow priest looks good for more than a month and the nerf hammer slams them.
How surprising, that multidotting class (no i dont consider aff that strong multidotter after the nonsensical UA spli at legion start) does good on multi-target fights…hmmmmm
hmmmm
hmmmm
YES NERF EM! Dont care about their single-targer or PVP. Dem logs and plebs with 60 IQ crying => MUST NERF!!!
