I was wondering how much scope there is for shadow priests and the type of magic wielders they are. I love the idea of the original idea behind them, that they were just dark casters.
Obviously in the last few years we have seen the development of the class lean more toward Void/Old God influence but I personally find the original theme of the spec more appealing - dark magic users who have ‘‘fallen from the grace of the light’’ so to speak.
With the reintroduction of Devouring Plague (more of a dark magic theme than a Void one) I was wondering what your thoughts are on this and how you make it work (and which you prefer) for your character and the idea of a shadow priest. I personally have trouble connecting with all the void stuff.
Which only applies to a select few, most notably the Forsaken Cult of the Forgotten Shadows before its origins were retconned. But they were always void leaning; they fell from the grace of the Light into the embrace of the Shadows - otherwise known as the Void. Because void and shadow are used interchangeably.
Incorrect. You have voidbolt and shadowbolt + voidform and shadowform. Void is the more juiced up and dangerous version of shadow, they’re not the same thing.
Incorrect + headcanon, this is an assumption made by people because, as you said, we have void bolt and shadow bolt, and also voidform and shadowform. Pure void can’t manifest in the physical world in its true form, it does so in the form of shadow magic; pure Light cannot manifest itself either and instead does so in the guise of holy magic. Shadow magic, which is what people wield on Azeroth, are just echoes of the Void itself, and can interchangeably be referred to as either void or shadow magic.
