Some of the changes seem interesting, as it will reduce a bit of bloat and endless procs. I’m okay with sear being removed since link is getting buffed up and will benefit from DP. It’s now a matter of number tuning and reaching a good spot, but I guess I’ll have to test it out.
That being said, the change to shadow crash is pissing me off. I hope they revert it, we need a fast way to apply VT into a pack, or otherwise we’ll be very clunky and fall behind in aoe/mythic+ as most classes have access to immediate aoe damage while we’ll be applying vt one by one again. It’s actually disgusting the thought of that
Yes, the Dot spread through SC is still there, we just need to invest that one talent point we got with Mind Sear being removed. Honestly, I am not that concerned about that, but I would rather move SC more to the tree center, so it is more accessible.
I would also bake in some sort of CD reduction to SC, be it being reduced by haste, or maybe even each cast of Mind Blast/SW:D/DP reduces CD like for 1 second?
It also seem that shadow is even less mobile now with removal of Insta cast procs. I am saying it again, but give us Door of Shadows back (in a class tree).
Nice to those, who already played without Sear. They will actually not feel any difference in gameplay now. Only setting the right talents will need some testing.
I tried it on PTR and while it feels a lot easier at first, the Mindspike proc is gone and its a very big loss. I know, ppl did not like it that much, but it was godsent with all those swirlyception going on in dungeons.
I always played with Sear and Voidform. Definitely gonna hurt now because Mental Decay only works on your main target and always redotting right before Shadowcrash comes up again feels…not so good.
Are we able to ramp up damage in aoe on the PTR? Meaning, are you able to eventually reach high numbers? Or are we back to slow aoe build up, never peaking anywhere near the high dps we’re currently able to output?
I didn’t like DF mind sear at first, but has grown into me, especially cuz it actually does significant damage, and when you get instant procs you can turn into an aoe killing machine
How will I deal with something like Raszageth intermission 1 without sear? 3 packs less than 30 seconds apart. Sear really patches some holes.
We’re doing progress and I’m already so vulnerable to the pacing changes when we improve I have to replan everything. Sear is my escape from micromanagement.
The changes seem based on feedback from 6-10 months ago, and reactionary play to the damage statistics. Plus the multi-pronged nerf: too many procs? Alright, we remove 2 of the things that can proc but ALSO lower the proc rate of the rest. Did two different people come up with two different fixes and they apply both, not thinking about how they stack?
Also I still hate relying on a 30 second ground targeted opener that can miss. Actually crying right now.
Perspective from a multiglad/multi cutting edge spriest that usually mains the class but has relegated it to an alt this time around (except for PvP):
In terms of PvE, these changes are not good. Not good whatsoever. Every complaint people have had about Mind Sear in this patch is just going to bring new problems in 10.1. Our insanity generation on PTR sucks. Our playstyle is basically Outlaw Rogue but in caster form - you rotate your single target rotation in all situations (except spreading VT around when there’s AOE). You are absolutely 110% reliant on Shadow Crash and without Shadow Crash you’re going to be super bad.
Mind Spike and Mind Blast proc changes were completely not needed and the only thing we needed to solve “button bloat” was to allow them to be casted during Mind Flay/Void Torrent like they (well, Mind Blast) use to be during Shadowlands.
Insanity generation has been kneecapped and it’s BEYOND bad, the dev who made these changes obviously doesn’t play the spec at any significant level.
As for PvP… I’ve seen all the new changes (CC duration nerfs, kick duration nerfs, Precognition being an embellish) but all of those doesn’t justify removal of so many instant casts from the spec. Damnation and Void Origins(PvP talent) being removed is a joke. Hell, should be a baseline spell for Voidform/Dark Arch in PvE as well, let alone PvP. They want us to cast more, that’s fine, the removal of MS/MB procs will effectively accomplish that, but the removal of Damnation and VO is just… I don’t know, the spec is effectively gutted in high intensity situations such as facing a really good melee cleave with a healer that plays close to you and uses his interrupt properly. With these changes there’ll be games where no matter how good you play you won’t be able to get anything but Shadow Crash off. If that’s their intended design choice then good for them because it certainly isn’t good for the spec itself.
This “rework” is nothing short of a joke and I hope we’ll see more changes and/or some decisions revisited because they turned the spec that had some button bloat but was fun at its core and involved a lot of decisionmaking into a 5 button immobile caster in both PvE and PvP which will frankly feel 10 times more boring than it use to be and in turn that’ll make people who play it either reroll or straight up quit (which I feel is not their intention) unless the numbers are really good, and even if the numbers are really good, the spec will feel boring to play compared to Shadowlands, compared to BFA, especially compared to 10.0.
What I feel like should be done is this:
turn Mind Sear back to a filler instead of a spender - similar to how Gloomblade vs Shuriken Storm functions for Sub rogues, we either Mind Flay or Mind Sear depending on the amount of targets
keep Shadowy Insight procs, allow them to be casted during Mind Flay/Sear
tie Mind Spike to Dark Archangel builds because Voidform+Mind Spike is where most of the “button bloat” was in
Damnation is kept in the game
Void Origins is implemented baseline across all content for Dark Arch/Void Eruption
Keep everything else the same and the spec will be fine and enjoyable to play.
Ty, i literally wrote exactly this one in the next section. Yes its terrible.
And also, as some ppl already mentioned, insanity gen sucks completely. In ST it feels like the beginning of max level with 2% haste and insanity starving.
I asked for its removal not mind sear lol blizzard are insane. They are forceing us to play mind spike and Shadow crash blizzard is looking more like corporation than anything fun to play.
they can delete this class they are just going back to boring legion why do people want that boring garbage design back it can burn in hell its what killed priest.
In legion they removed mind sear and now they are removing mind sear again like what the heck are blizzard doing? just revert mind sear add another spender like cascade.
also remove shadow crash add VT spread on mind blast and pain spread on shadoword death instead how hard should it be make dark ascension instant cast and void form too make mind bender a perma pet then add Hero to priest and remove Pi. and the class is fixed.
Less instant means we getting smashed in arenas world pvp by melees. We already had a big hit on our survivability… now this.
I need to cast mind spike and mind blast which hits 15k and 25 k crit. while locks are spamming chaozsbolt in arena with a non crit of 90 k… yeah… who is designing this game ? They clearly dont have any idea… I hope they will increase our damage if they want us to cast more. Otherwise we’r screwed in pvp.
You can’t really compare a filler spell (Mind Spike) with a spender nuke spell (Chaos Bolt). It is obvious that spenders are more powerful than fillers.
I also heard that Mind Spike: Insanity hits pretty hard on PTR.
I assume this is just first iteration of rework and some parts will hopefuly be changed based on feedback.
