Shadow Priests are getting a rework in 10.1

I just wanted to gloat and say that i effing called it. Anyways, considering how good the Paladin rework has been, i am really excited to see what 10.0 will bring Shadow.

Fingers crossed.

I hope they will have a look at class tree as well. I can’t help but I feel our class tree is full of rather undertuned talents and about 1/3 - 1/2 is dead choice for you, depending on your spec. That certainly limits build diversity.

My hopes are that this focuses on dead talents in the spec tree (Whispers and basically everything swd related) as well as generally tidies up the rotation.

door of shadows, nuff said.

Why do you think they wanna rework it? Its broken as hell the best ranged dps atm no other ranged can match a good SP. They dont know how to balance it tbh.

I’m hella surprised if Shadow is fun(for me) to play even after the rework, but I’m hopeful and maybe I’ll not regret subscribing again to test it out.

I think the reason I don’t like Shadow RN and didn’t really appreciate it in SL either but I copiumed my way through SL,

Is because DF combat mechanics are really all about every dps class being exactly the same popping big cds to activate damage, if I played healer I’d probably be fine with current state of the game, but I’m not.

So yeah, I suppose that won’t change and I will remain hopeful that I can enjoy the next expansion

I am really worried about this because these reworks are always a monkey paw with Blizzard.

They give you one thing you asked for, but may take away something else you liked more.

its both good and bad ye

its good that shadows been getting this much attention, and i think the current format of its balancing has led to quite a ability bloat due to the fact shadows passives arent amazing, so ur just stacking all active abilities.

but at the same time, shadows only actually just got good, Rework doesnt realistically state its going to be good, sure the design may get easier to play, but if u end up back at the bottom. its not rly a actual improvement.

but from a PvP PoV, i think Shadows been pretty unbalancable, its either god mode, or Average and they’ve not rly managed to get a balancing point, so maybe thats maybe somewhat the motive behind this.

As far as I am concerned, spriest is now doing well mostly because Psychic Link, virtually one overtuned talent. If that talent gets nerfed, it will impact whole spec greatly (as we’ve seen in first weeks of DF).

Being dependant on single talent is not the healthiest design. Shadow needs to be fixed, not just bandaged as it was since removal of artifact traits.

They seemed to have done fairly good job with ret though it remains to be seen.
I’m hoping they would scrub the button bloat and make the rotation flow better.

they also made ret excessively easy they tend to hard prune weirdly the moment they decide to revamp a class this expansion.

While that’s true. Pruning was stated as one of the main goals behind the Ret rework. The other to bring up sustained dps and lower burst. And from my testing on the PTR, they have accomplished that really well.
My Paladin is doing almost 30% more sustained dps, while my burst is down by roughly the same amount. The end result is a ~10% increase in single target dps, and a ~20% in AoE. Although the rework might not be meant to be a buff, so Ret could get nerfed before the rework goes live. Who knows.

true. but still, the fact they unpruned the game was one of the major Plus points for DF, its a weird move to backtrack on that situation, its Really eas. to a Accomplish making a 3 button Specc work im afraid.

yet they could have had a Deeper design and managed the same thing if they were willing to put the effort into putting ret together with a engaging rotation.#

they’re basically slowly, Re-Legionifying DF, After announcing they’re aware the pruning wasnt popular, Reverting on this decision i dont applaud, and PvE numbers arent hard to make happen realistically. Shadow priest, Went from bottom to top 3 Meta in all PvE Game modes without gutting the core specc in the process…

Possibly yes. But that was probably beyond what they could do in a short mini patch like 10.0.7.

It was very apparent during this PTR cycle that Blizzard were really struggling with the rigidity of Holy Power.
Personally i have nothing against it, and don’t really want to have it removed, but every PTR build Blizzard introduced drastic changes to Holy Power generation. And ultimately they settled on something similar to live. Because there just isn’t a whole lot you can do with 5 points.

In hindsight, Blizzard should probably have kept working on Ret until 10.1

Hello everyone, i read the upcoming changes and i am really disappointed by blizzard. Asspecially of the wording, in shadowlands he expirenced changes so he can get played more easier. Next up now those changes, it will make the class one more step easier and nothing special anymore. I dont like to play a 2 or 3 abilitie class that only have to press some and only one way. I like the flexible options we got now, could go for dark ascension, mindbender, shadowfiend or void. This make this class again like any other boomie class. Disappointed from blizzard - the stage from shadow was fine.

Heres hopeing it does not suck to play as season one did

Why are they removeing mind sear when Shadow crash is the main thing with this expack i hate… Well the devs are in the weed forest again i guess. Tbh the core of this class is just s clunk fiesta at this point

I miss Sear lmao. Idk the current rework is mid if this makes it out of ptr. but idk I am still using cthun and nzoth.

Okay, so with 10.1 PTR being up and with it the first iteration of the Shadow rework is available to us.

My first impression is… “Yikes, these are just nerfs”.

Yeah I’m worried. I’ve really got into SP and now they probably gonna blow it up.
